Sangkaya has always been my favourite ice cream place especially when I’m craving for some coconut ice cream to quench my thirst on a hot sunny day! In fact, every day in Malaysia is hot and sunny thus I would actually have ice cream everyday if I could. My cousins and I went to have ice cream because we had nothing much to do at home thus decided to catch up over ice cream! We ordered the signature 4 scoops of premium coconut ice cream with coconut flakes, roasted peanuts and cereal as our toppings served on a coconut husk with fresh strips. The coconut ice cream was really refreshing and really a thirst quencher! I simply loved how the flavour of the coconut was subtle yet rich. The ice cream was fragrant as well, as though every bite I take I’m tasting 10 coconuts at once.Apart from that, we also ordered the signature cha yen ice cream which also comes in 4 scoops and 3 toppings. The Cha Yen ice cream was Thai milk tea infused in coconut ice cream. I can say it was a disappointment. We had the same toppings for this cha yen ice cream but to me the cha yen doesn’t stand out much. The ‘teh’ flavour was bland and not rich enough for me. Both ice cream costed RM 10.90 each and I think the price is okay considering there were 4 scoops of ice cream. continue reading

I remember once when I was young, my parents took me on a trip to Penang. During that trip, we stopped by a Thai-Buddhist looking temple. Like everywhere else in Malaysia, I remember it being a really sunny and hot day. Not knowing anything like any other grumpy kid, I threw a fit (nobody knows why). So, my dad took me to a side and we saw this man selling some ice cream with nuts on it in a cone. My dad took me over to the stand and got me some ice cream, maybe to improve my mood. And OMG, it was the first time in my life that I had tasted something so amazing! Coconut ice cream! Mind you, I am a huge fan of anything coconut. Coconut flesh, coconut water, nasi lemak, santan anything, what more coconut ice cream?! It was such a pleasure to find out later on that this chain of ice cream shops, Sangkaya had opened in Subang, Sunway Pyramid, Sri Petaling and later Bandar Puteri. Much happiness had I felt. Sangkaya in Sri Petaling and Bandar Puteri have really nice interior. Very mod yet a sligh balinese feel? The ice cream is served in either a cup, cone (forgot), and an empty coconut shell. Obviously, the empty coconut shell one is the best for photography for social media *wink* *wink*. Here's the thing, if you are not a big fan of super creAmy ice creams, do not fear the coconut ice cream here, it's not the sickeningly sweet type of milky ice cream. Just try it and I trust you wil, like me, have the same kind of love for Sangkaya. Also, they offer a rather wide range of toppings, I personally prefer the dried shredded coconut and nut toppings.  continue reading

Sangkaya is famous for their coconut ice cream, but some may not know that Sangkaya sells cha yen ice cream too. Cha Yen is Thai Milk Tea. Sangkaya sells a different kind of Thai Milk Tea ice cream as they serve their customer, Thai Milk Tea infused in coconut ice cream. In my opinion, this is what made them special. There are various pricing for their ice cream. You can get a scoop of ice cream with cone for RM 3.10 ; 3 scoops of ice cream in a sundae cup with one topping for RM 7.30 and lastly, their signature: 4 scoops of ice cream served on fresh coconut husk with flesh strips and a maximum of 3 toppings for RM 10.50. The prices are inclusive of GST.The toppings that the customers can choose from are sweet corn, kidney beans, corn flakes, roasted peanut, coconut flakes, cereal and Hershey’s chocolate sauce. For every additional topping, customers are required to pay extra RM0.50. My personal favourite toppings are sweet corn, coconut flakes and the Hershey’s chocolate sauce. In my opinion, the price they charged is quite reasonable as they are selling something unique continue reading

Having coconut ice cream after dinner is the perfect combination that brings ultimate satisfaction. The coconut ice cream is smooth and creamy, with sufficient coconut aroma. The signature version comes served in a coconut shell accompanied by the insides of coconut. There are free toppings such as chocolate sauce, coconut flakes, corns and cereals. Overall, it is a very satisfying experience. Will come back for sure. continue reading

Since all my friends often mention about this Sangkaya besides the fact that it opened a new branch here in Sunway Pyramid, so I decided to give it a try. Coconut lover like me truly think that it's worth to pay the price for a taste of coconut ice cream that can melts your heart. Unless you're on a budget yet craving for coconut ice cream, I suggest you to get the cone ones which is way cheaper and it's sufficient to satisfy yourself. continue reading
