Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh (Closed)

We were contemplating on whether we should order the fried beancurd sheets or yau char kwai. Wifey decided that she wants the fried beancurd sheets, hence we proceeded with that. The fried sheets were very tasty, albeit a little oily. Full of mouth-crunch, it was a good complement to our bak kut teh session. Priced at RM5 for about 6 sheets, it was well worth the amount paid.

Mum-in-law didn't want the conventional broiled vegetables, hence we opted for the sour and spicy vegetables. Essentially stewed mustard cabbage with asam and dried chillies, the taste can be quite pungent, if you are not into spicy stuff. The cabbage was stewed until very soft. There weren't much other than mustard cabbage really. Priced at RM5, it was a decent amount to pay.

Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh prides themselves with string-tied meat, which essential meant all the goodness and juices of the meat is contained inside while it is being stewed. Father-in-law ordered the Ka Chark, which is essential the pig's trotters. There were still bits of string attached to the meat, but it was easily removed. Sum Chan Bah, or three layer meat in Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh is quite nice. The layers of skin, meat and fat is quite proportionate, which makes it a joy to eat. Although the soup is rather bland, some soya sauce solved the issue. No frills, just pork meat and soup. They were a bit stingy with the chopped garlic, so we had to make them bring more. Otherwise, service here is fine. Priced at RM11.50 a bowl, it was a decent price to pay.

The thing that cracks me up in Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh is their naming of dishes. I wanted the half lean half fat meat, and according to my father-in-law, it is item number 3, which was written as Pan Fie Soul in the menu. After chortling to myself, we ordered and the food came in a jiffy, even though there were quite a number of patrons there. The meat is more 70% lean and 30% fat, which was OK for me.
