Soft and fluffy on the inside with a wonderful crispy outer crust and the portion is pretty giant too ... ^^"

Perhaps because it was not lunch time so there were not too many patrons eating there. We got a table relatively quick and our waiter was more attentive this time, giving us a menu each almost instantly. I knew then to not order their baked eggs even though I wanted to have some nice runny egg yolk.

Instead my friend recommended the Chicken & Waffles. Which neither are really my ideal brunch or lunch order. But with good faith I ordered it anyway and it is safe to say that my impression of Nutmeg has changed after having this dish.

Sitting on top of a really nice light waffle is a slice of cheese, perfectly fried chicken with some corn strewn over it and then a beautifully poached egg. Also there's a little drizzle of maple syrup to keep it in it's 'southern' style. This dish I really liked because the flavour of everything just goes so well together.

And having the richness of the yolk from the poached egg drizzling all over the crisp waffle & chicken was just heaven in a bite. So this dish has become my number one dish to order when I do visit Nutmeg and now, I no longer feel a slight disdain for the place.

In fact I think I will go there almost every time I'm at Bangsar Village. Just for this dish.

Nutmeg has their name around the cafe exploration quite outstanding. With their unique dim and bright cafe interior, they serve food that blows your mind away. Every plate they serve are with well mannered waiters who flashes a million dollar smile at you. Every bite you take is flamed with seasoning that makes your tastebuds wanting more. Top service and big portion food on a plate, it is a cafe not to be missed.

Although it was late in the afternoon, there was a large crowd and the cafe could only sit so many with it's small space. Though they had a few tables placed outside of the quaint little cafe, we still had to wait a good 10 minutes before being able to get a seat.

Plus it took about two minutes for the busy wait-staff to even take notice of us. I guess they were so busy that it got slightly frustrating, but there were times where I swore neither of them wanted to even attend to us despite clearly seeing that we needed service. For a first time visit, it's safe to say that I was disappointed at that point.

Though I kept my hopes up and ordered something that I absolutely adore ordering from brunch/breakfast places. Baked eggs!

I was expecting a lot because many people have said that Nutmeg are very good at cooking their eggs. So I had their baked eggs with mushrooms and a side of toast. It sounded heavenly to me and I couldn't wait to dip my toast in soft coddled eggs.

But my dish took the longest to arrive and by the time it did, I was in a bit of a sour mood. Plus everything that I was hoping for really did not turn out well at all. The egg was hard and completely overcooked, the point where the yolks where borderline powdery so there goes my hope of dipping my bread in it. And the mushroom, spinach and tomatoes filling was scarce.  To top it all off, the entire thing was bland and as much as I love baked eggs, I couldn't finish this at all.

Let's just say my first visit with Nutmeg was not a pleasant one. But I am willing to give them a second chance and try other things from their menu to see if I was just unlucky that day.

Today May,21 i walked in with my friend by welcome from the NUTMEG crew. So we order one set of lunch which included one fish soup, spicy tuna spaghetti, a carrot cake plus another side order which is two more poach eggs.
After the soup was serving, the main course which is spaghetti serving. While we eating I found out one short (hair) so I wonder to ignore it, but later one I found out another more. So I invite waiter to ask what was this two little (hair) was.. The waiter was taking my spaghetti away; I think should be asking the chef from kitchen. Then he come out said, the chef also no idea what was it. First they just simply remove two of the (hair) away.
So I was thinking should I continue my food or I should left it, then I found out another longer about 3cm long (hair). So I decided to ask another waiter for it. She just walk away and said try to find it out for me. But later, she come out said:” so sorry” the chef decided to FOC us this spaghetti.
Then we thought that we can continue our dessert which is carrot cake, and our side orders which we ordering. About half an hour to go, they never serve us or walk toward us. Just let us sitting there by ourselves. I was wondering how come my food didn’t be serving anymore but others? Then we ask for our order, they just direct replied:’’ you didn’t have any side order!’
We was so hungry & mad because we sitting there just for a soup and half of the spaghetti with (hairs). Even they said we don’t need to pay, but they never ask whether we need other order? or should they exchange another food for us. But kicking us out of the Nutmeg restaurant. I have go through all the comment of this restaurant only I decided to walk in, but who's know this is so awful lunch & worst experience that we had for today in Nutmeg , Bangsar Village.
Other Info. : Pls think twice when u walk in this restaurant. With my awful experience from this restaurant i suggest you to be careful when u eating ur food.

It sounds like a restaurant that sells Penang-style dishes. Hence, I was contemplating if I should pay a visit as I don't want to pay RM20+ for my laksa. Haha... There's one day when I hanged out with my Penang college friends, we passed by BVII and I decided to walk pass Nutmeg restaurant.Surprisingly, they are serving coffee, big breakfast, wine, and more western food. That amazed me and I decided to go in and try out with my babes.Great environment and I like their service =)

Nutmeg has recently become one of my more regular breakfast places, and for good reason. Drilling beyond the charming "woody" decor and trying-to-be-personal-and-friendly service (props to them for trying, but I'm just not feeling it!), the food is the real draw of this place. With plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of options for breakfast places in Bangsar, competition is stiff and food just has to be up to mark, especially when you're a restaurant that does not serve pork. (Brief note: I've tried at least 3 places in Bangsar, priding themselves on pork offerings, which serve mediocre to terrible food, at bad prices.)

If you've been pining for good smoked salmon, you'd not be disappointed at Nutmeg - I rate this one highly, just behind Bistro a Table and Prime, for a much more attractive price tag. Grilled cherry tomatoes are softened and sweetened to perfection, and sauteed mushrooms are appropriately plump, juicy, and flavourful. This time, I opted for poached eggs, which in retrospect seemed to be a bad idea, due to the difficulty I had lapping up the egg in its gloriously messy form (which was good, otherwise). I opted for fried mac and cheese as one of my sides (in lieu of hash brown, I think), and it was a great choice. Crispy on the outside, and oozy-warm-soft on the inside - accentuated by a dollop of thick tomato breakfast salsa. The sausage was a delight, as I would expect from any breakfast of this form - meaty, chunky, and earthy. I don't know what was inside it, but I opted to steer away from satisfying my curiosity; as the mystery of sausages can be quite "exotic".

There's no losing when you eat here - even if you don't enjoy your meal, at least you automatically qualify as being part of the "in" crowd.

The french toast at Nutmeg is really good. Soft, fluffy, and warm. This is the chocolate-banana variety - one of the few options available here. It was difficult to select one because all sounded so good.Anyway, the chocolate sauce was very good, but I found that there should be at least double the amount of banana, and it should be toasted to caramelize and soften a little at least - this was just placed atop the toast, halved and raw.Taste? Good. Value for money? Not quite.

"a cafe, located in bangsar village 2 - adheres to their motto of 'good food from our kitchen' by serving breakfast food all day long from am to the pm (lunch & dinner options available too) and boasts of their 3 must haves - classic reuben, their namesake big breakfast and their gravlax sampler"

perhaps that's the reason behinds the cafe's name: being secretly special. my other theory is the warmth it intends to bring with their offerings in similar fashion the nutmeg imparts warm flavors.

the same secretly special warmth was reflected in the nutmeg cafe's decor - an eccentric mix of vibrant artistry with hints of vintage industrial chic and modern baba-nyonya. i love the use of the mason jars as lamps at the counter where you could watch the chefs hard at work, preparing the dishes as the aroma wafted from the open kitchen into the dining area.

with brunch, lunch and dinner options aplenty, surprisingly it took me no time to pick my plate of choice when my eyes zeroed in on something that i've been craving for since returning from the states and haven't really been able to find anywhere else so far.

but first...

drinks - iced teas :: nutmeg mixed fruit tea | black tea, mint, orange juice, pineapple juice (rm 9)

the iced tea tasted tropical, where the pineapple dominated with the occasional orange flavor sneaking in. the main star, the black tea was as subtle as the mint - so much so that more mint infusion could take the drink to another level of refreshing goodness. {mw} wasn't too thrilled with it. my take - it was pretty nice albeit slightly too sweet for my liking.

lunch & dinner - sandwiches
:: bagel & lox | toasted bagel , cream cheese, choice of house-cured gravlax, capers (rm 21)

the toasted bagel had a crispy exterior contrasting the slightly chewy insides but was almost borderline dry. what i assumed was half a block of cream cheese (would have been a whole lot better if the consistency was of a schmear) was spread on the bagel that i scraped off enough for another serving. the side salad was a delightful crisp field of greens tossed in a vinaigrette that combined light berry sweetness and tartness.

HUGE kudos to nutmeg for getting the gravlax aboard on the flavor train. fresh raw salmon, which was mildly salted paired perfectly with periodic briny burst from capers and the tartness of the cream cheese granted desirable yummy mouthfuls. the one small thing (and i'm nitpicking in this case) was i wished the lox was slightly more salty, which i eventually was fulfilled when i finally reached on the last slice which i suspect was from the end of the cured salmon block. on the flip side i have to admit that the mild saltiness allowed the salmon's natural flavors to shine.

all day breakfast :: nutmeg gravlax "croissant-wich" | smoked paprika gravlax topped with scrambled eggs, toasted croissant (rm 26)

not very dissimilar from my dish, {mw} offered me a bite off her croissant-wich. the eggs were fluffy and seasoned perfectly with the buttery, chewy pastry and finally made whole by the same fantastic gravlax with a hint of smokiness from being mildly paprika-ed. {mw} gave her nodding approval for the dish and from the small bite i had, i'd give a preliminary concurrence

breakfast comforts :: hotcake stack | three pancake stack . vanilla ice cream & chocolate hazelnut praline ganache (rm 16)

instead of breakfast for dinner, this is more dessert for dinner! {kbg} wanted something "lighter" and was determined to get a breakfast dish when i first told him that they served breakfast options for dinner, which to him, was quite an interesting concept. unfortunately, the pancakes were probably the least successful where it ended up dense and almost chewy instead of the fluffy pillow-like airiness that it should be. the chocolate hazelnut praline ganache was delectable though - mimicking the flavors of nutella.

nutmeg cafe, which was initiated by two brothers-in-law, has turned heads for its novelty idea (probably one of the firsts in malaysia) of serving breakfast food all day - be it for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. while there were a couple of misses in execution, nutmeg's gravlax had me at first bite.

"good food from our kitchen?"
yes, yummy but not out of this world....
....with maybe the exception of the gravlax.

The boyfriend was craving for something filling and flavorful so he decided on Nutmeg's lasagna after the waiter recommended it to us. The lasagna came out to be served on a plate with a deeper depth surprisingly. Unlike most lasagna, Nutmeg's was served with bolognese gravy which surrounds the entire lasagna itself, so it makes it not dry and still gives some moisture to the pasta layer of the lasagna.

The classic spaghetti bolognese. I believe most people started with the classic spaghetti bolognese before they enter the world of pasta. The spaghetti bolognese that they serve here consists of beef and lamb, which was what makes it slightly more different compared to others. The bolognese sauce was packed filled with flavour, you could taste both beef and lamb juices together. The shredded cheese on top gave it that extra kick. Spaghetti was cooked perfectly and everything was good.

For dessert, I was hesitating between this Yogurt Parfait and the Chocolate Hazelnut Pudding. Well, in the end I prefer berries and yogurt together. The yogurt itself was light but rich in flavour. It did not overpower the berries or the nuts altogether. The berries gave it some extra sweet and sourness whilst the nuts gave it that extra crunchy bite. The combination of these 3 elements were pretty good as a dessert.

There is only one restaurant which serve the kind of beef lasagna that I like, which is The Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf. Now, there are two. I really do enjoy fresh salmon sashimi but not the type of vegetables used in a Gravlax salad. I do not know what was it called but I do know that it was really bitter. The salmon was pretty good. It was smooth, soft and rather flavourful in a salmon way. However, some say the salmon wasn't freshly caught but it was breed. I couldn't really tell the different since I'm not a professional salmon eater.
