Whenever we run out of ideas to dine, my family will head straight to New Paris as it is near our place. To be honest, the food wasn't that good to shout about but it wasn't bad either. And for the price we are paying, it is consider as cheap among all other local Chinese Restaurants.Since uncle is back in town for new year, we brought them to this place for dinner. We did not opt for their typical menu but proceed to order ala crate dishes. We had Pork Ribs, Stir Fry squid with long beans, Taufoo clay pot, Vegetables with garlic and a butter prawn. Not forgetting their signature dish, the watermelon chicken. For those who have never been, the watermelon chicken may look interesting. The flesh will be shaped into a ball like watermelon perfect for dessert after meal. The chicken itself tasted sweet with a slight hint of sourish. Some may find the taste weird some may like it depending on your preference. The stir fry squid was pretty good too. With lots of onions and some Thai alike sauce, so appetizing with lots of long beans. All in all we still enjoyed our dinner at a reasonable price. continue reading

I just happened to be lucky for my colleagues' Chinese New Year Lunch get-together at New Paris. So at least I get to try another new place. Naturally, our first dish is Yee Sang which turned out to be normal and not that great. The salmon was not fresh enough. The stuff inside is just ok.The Teo Chew Steamed Fish is quite ok but normal. The fish is soft and succulent enough. My other colleague said it did not taste that good as it was probably pre-boiled first to fasten the cooking process. The Fried Pork with marmite was quite taste. I like the crisp and the sweet taste. The Kailan is quite fresh and green. it had salted fish which makes it quite salty. The salad with fried nestum prawn is too oily. There is too much mayonaise inside the salad. The fried tofu with minced pork was quite tasty. But again, the taste is just average. The only good thing here is that they cook quite fast. My friends think they probably precook the food first.  continue reading

This is the fast food joint for Chinese food. They have a limited menu & the orders come out super fast which is one of its main draws. They occupy 3 stories & is consistently packed during dinner time. Food is pretty decent. Not overpriced. Top picks would be the Watermelon Chicken & Pork Knuckle (fried or braised). Suitable for big groups or family celebrations. Only downside would be the noise level (due to crowd) & parking situation. continue reading

This is a popular PJ institution with good and affordable food that comes out very quickly as well, even when the restaurant is having a large crowd. Parking is quite ample although during the weekends, customers end up parking along the roadside or even the backlanes - such is the popularity of New Paris amongst PJ people! Specialties include their Beancurd with Minced Pork, Curry Fish Head, Chicken-in-Watermelon (can't remember the actual name), and Omelette. continue reading

continue reading
