There is a wide variety of Chinese snacks being sold including egg tarts, the Teochew wedding biscuits, egg rolls, winter melon biscuits and more that I can't remember.

I'll have to admit that I was purchasing the items with a sense of apprehension; my previous experience with the siew bao wasn't too perfect and I really hoped that it'd not occur, but much of my dismay, it transpired again.

Siew Bao

I'm sorry to say that Mama Carrie and I both felt like we were ingested pure, coarse salt. I understand that this is for preservation purposes as the spokesman did assure us way back when that no chemicals were added into the patisserie but it was in excess.

It didn't explode with the flavors of a freshly baked item either. It leaned towards staleness instead as if the paste had been prepared a day or two in advance, but it was still edible.

When I first tasted this dish during its days of infancy, it was heaven and contained less oil and sodium chloride but after such a long period of hiatus, the quality has dipped tremendously with the extra addition of oil and sodium chloride, which is such a pity as Mr. Siew Bao has a lengthy history behind the name.

I really hope that this is an isolated incident because it'll be such a waste to see my favorite brand losing specialty.Address: Mr. Siew Bao,

Mr. Siew Bao is a pastry stall that is located nearby Maxis ans Adidas shop, just next to Jerry's Pancake. As per their shop name, their signature pastry of course is the Siew Bao (crispy and round puff with meat). If you are craving for some traditional local puff, this is the place you should head to. Beside this, it also offers all sorts of local puffs and buns, from Cheese Chicken Siew Bao to Curry Siew Bao and Mushroom Vegetarian Siew Bao. No dine in, only take away. Good news for my Muslim

Good news for my Muslim friends as this pastry shop is HALAL. I have bought their siew bao (RM1.70). It is very crispy, the meat inside is just nice and smell good. To bad the size is a bit small. I have bought the coconut siew bao (RM1.70) as well. The outlook is similar like siew bao, just that the internal ingredient is coconut. Overall, I think the party is delicious and the price is reasonable.

The outer crust is shiny, had a nice brown colour- must be due to egg wash nicely spreaded in between baking time and even before that. It looks apetizing on itself already.

Upon biting on the siew pau, the crust had a nice buttery taste, slightly flaky and crunchy at the same time. It left some crumbled pieces falling indicating the texture of it is good, very well made. The filling makes it taste even better- savoury, slightly sweet and sticky loosely sliced meat. It is like a mini snack good for eating anytime

The crust of this egg tart is not those flaky type but is close to pie crust style, which I seldom try it.The egg custard inside smells good on itself. Taste wise it is fresh with egg aroma, soft and not too sweet. However, it is not as good as the popular ones for example Tong Kee. Some special flavour and texture is missing inside. The crust was slightly buttery, slightly crunchy and soft at the same time. But I prefer flaky type of crust, that's just me It is just a matter of personal prefere

Mr. Siew Bao is a kiosk located at Sunway Pyramid, just below TGV Cinemas. Service is friendly and prompt. The puff has a golden colour look, the taste is even better. The pastry is incredibly buttery, flaky and light. The fillings were quite generously filled with chicken and potato. It tasted spicy enough and well seasoned. A great snack I would say and I will sure return for more of it If I am not mistaken it cost not more than RM2.80. Considered cheap inside a shopping mall.
