There are a lot of dim sum displayed there. it is self service so we need take dim sum ourselves. we have take siew mai (pork dumpling), ha gao (shrimp dumplings), egg tart and many others dim sum. i would recommend ha mai since it is delicious. the outer layer would not be too thick and inside is full of shrimp. it is nice to eat.

It is located in Taman Pekaka, and consists of 2 units of non-air conditioned shop lots. Unlike the cart system, customers have the privilege of exercising their body muscles by placing orders and collecting dim sum dishes at the centralized table.

Of course, there are the old-school standard issues that needs to be included in every dim sum visit: Shrimp Dumpling (虾饺) and Pork Dumpling (猪肉烧卖). Maxim Dim Sum is well-known in Penang for its dim sum taste, so it was not surprising that we enjoyed these dishes.

We also tried the Mushroom Dumping (蘑菇烧卖). It was not as tasty as the pork counterpart, but nevertheless still worth a bite.

Out of curiosity, we also asked for a plate of Cheese Roll (奶酪卷), which came in 3 pieces. It is essentially deep-fried pastry that has been hollowed out for the cheese paste. It's something new, but not something that I will order again.

Last but not least, we had a plate of Fried Radish Cake (萝卜糕) to fill up the remaining space in our stomach.

The breakfast was good and quite affordable. The only concern is the large crowd during the later part of the morning.

Golden WrapThis is the latest addition to the dim sum spread at Maxim, according to the staff there. As its name depicts, the snack is artistically wrapped up and deep fried till golden brown. I suppose the crispy protruding sticks belongs to vermicelli and taste good when dip with mayonnaise. Hidden inside was chunky whole prawn which adds some sweetness to this fried ball. Quite an addictive morsels but could be quite messy with the brittle ‘torns’ on the outside

Chee Cheong FunDo not belittle this ubiquitous-looking chee cheong fun, for their belancan or rather blended chilly could really zest up this fare. Within the silky rice flour skin, wrapped within are juicy and succulent prawns. At first I thought it’s just a simple one till I take a bite in the middle where I found those seafood treasures The prawns are very fresh, and crisp to every bite. This dish is best eaten with its accompanied light gravy which are sweet and also the reddish condiments

Century Egg PorridgeYou could call for their porridge should you wish to fill up your stomach with a lighter meal. Luckily the congee has been added generously with julienned gingers and thus, balanced off the eggy flavor and spice up the dish more aromatically. It’s already good to go without any addition of soya sauce.

Not to be missed is my all-time favourite ‘ Liu Sa Pau’, a.k.a. egg custard bun. The bun is steamily hot and best eaten before it turns cold in order to savour the gooey eggy filling. I have always enjoyed the richness of salted egg filling in the small bun with its fluffy exterior, and can easily cleaned up 2 baskets
It isn’t too salty but is done just nice. I wish the buns could be larger, so as the creamy filling too

As soon as I stepped into the eatery, I picked up my order card and headed straight to pick the little morsels of my choice
The card is needed for the hawkers to tick the items that you took and only pay at the counter when you’re done with your dining. So here we have, four plates of various fried Dim Sums ^^.

Deep fried Yam Croquette is one of the must-order in my list. The flaky and crispy layer of the yam outside layer is very addictive and the meaty filling with dark soya sauce is just nice, not too salty. However, I started to feel full after just one portion, hehe. Thus must wash down with some tea if I still wish to resume gastronomic moments

Then my another favourite is Egg Tart. A nice egg tart should possess the qualities such as soft and silky egg custard with flaky tart pastry. However, I found this tart a tad dry to me, as the custard was bit solid, opposed to what it should be. As for the skin, it’s bit too dry to my liking, which makes me yearns for the yummy egg tart I have at Town Steamboat Restaurant. I think I should make another return trip soon

Luckily, this Char Siew So is delectable. The char siew filling is decently mixed with other seasoning at the right amount, with some parsley added to it. Therefor, there is a tinge of leafy fragrance when you bite into it. In this case, the pastry skin is softer and much satisfactorily than the one of egg tart. The pastry skin which is added with some dashes of white sesame also aids in bringing out the aroma.

Subsequently, our meal is followed by Fried Lotus Ball. These little balls are fried till fragrant and golden brown. The outer layer is kind of glutinous-like and is dabbed with white sesame before deep fried. Encased within is the pandan lotus (which in fact, am expecting the normal pure lotus, but that’s alright). They make a good combo of slight crisp on the outside with its soft gooey paste on the inside. The level of sweetness of the lotus paste is just nice. Slurps!
