The Kin no Mizu restaurant caught my eye as the lone restaurant on the highest floor in the building. The electric blue exterior was a modern touch to an otherwise traditional Japanese dining experience. I went ahead and ordered one of my Japanese favourites and something different: the Dobin Mushi (Seasoned Clear Soup in Tea Pot), RM28; and the Unagyu Don (Eel and Beef Combination Don), RM65.My appetizer, the Dobin Mushi, was immaculately dressed with really, really great quality ingredients. A large tiger prawn, scallop, fish, chicken and Japanese Matsukake mushrooms steamed inside this traditional seafood broth. That’s a lot of expensive ingredients all squished into that little tea-pot. So each tiny cup was packed with so much flavour that you can accent with a squeeze of lemon! Most tea pot soups from other restaurants are filled only with Matsukake mushrooms and cute Naruto fishcakes and bits of chicken. So really, this one was quite extravagant for its modest price.Right after that, my Unagyu Don was on its way! This isn’t something I order a lot but I guess I was really craving Unagi that night. When it arrived, I was not let down! As I opened the little box, the Unagi glistened in its caramelized glaze and the beef, so rich and aromatic, was accompanied by some lovely Japanese mushrooms. Again, this place isn’t stingy with its portions. Sitting on a bed of rice there was a lot of Unagi and great quality beef inside this box. The side of miso soup was filled with lots of wakame (sea mustard leaves) and tofu. As the aroma wafted across the table, I dug in.It was one of my better meals. I like the place a lot. The ambience was a wonderful accompaniment to a delicious meal. Thank you, Kin no Mizu for such a relaxing night after a tiring work day. Next time, I’ll be back for more! continue reading

Kitsune Udon with Mini Gyudon is what i love in Kin Ni Mizu. The Japanese Inaniwa Noodle in soup, topped with simmered, deep-fried bean curd. The bowl of udon is just perfect and delicious as it is where the noodles is smooth wand the flavours from the soup is sweet which is well absorb to the noodles itself. The noodles just slurps and making me so addicted with it as well. continue reading

The Restaurant: Located within The Intermark Mall (KL) is the third branch from its original outlets (Mizu Japanese fine dining). Kin no Mizu offers both the classic and modern interpretation of Japanese cuisine and the freshest ingredients as always.Environment/interior-decor: Kin no Mizu décor is different, it’s modern with alluring blue light and water here and there gives off a different experience. I visited the place on a Sunday afternoon and it was quiet. Menu: Since its lunch time, there are variety of set lunches to choose from in addition to daily specials and the a la carte menu. (yes; they have set lunches on a weekend)!FoodPardon the poor quality of the pictures & I can’t remember the food price)Grilled cod with salt setComes with the usual, fruits, chawanmushi, miso soup, salad and rice. The set as a whole is just so-so. The rice is soft, properly separated. Chawanmushi smooth, properly seasoned. Miso soup was out of the ordinary with potatoes and slightly sour aftertaste. Cod fish, very lightly seasoned and was slightly moist. I felt that the cod was not that fresh. The texture and flavour felt like it was defrost frozen cod or air-chilled cod that was kept in the freezer. Sashimi with tempura setThe sashimi I believe were salmon, tuna and pickled mackerel. The sashimis were fresh and of decent cut. The tempura was on the good side, light crispy battered, seasoned and of good size. Chawanmushi, rice and soup similar as stated above. If you realised they didn’t gave me grated radish for my tempura sauce. andOh yes, there was a small cockroach in my miso soup (how lovely). Green tea ice cream (no pics) was lovely, creamy and palatable. The colour was lovely matcha green and the matcha flavour was strong enough.Service: Adequate service, though the staff is not alert. Perhaps the dim lighting makes them sleepy. I asked for the menu a few times and I need to call them to refill my tea a few times as well. They didn’t apologize for the small roach. They were somehow more attentive towards the international couple. Verdict: The price for each set is from Rm 40-ish above. I was somewhat disappointed with the whole experience as I expected better. The aspect of set lunches on weekends with a variety of choice might excite you. However, if you were expecting something out of the ordinary, I reckon the a la carte and daily special might be a better choice. Besides that, if you are for set lunches other Japanese restaurant fares better even at a lower price. Luckily I paid only Rm40 for these; I would not be happy to pay the full price. *Ps: Be aware of their operating hours. continue reading

Mizu's third branch bears a different name from its original outlets at Bangsar Village and TTDI. But its menu remains mostly satisfying and the service team is just as welcoming. Mizu Special Maki, stuffed with cheese & topped with salmon, avocado mousse & gold leaves. Opulently presented, packed with tasty ingredients that blend harmoniously together. Beef tendons simmered in Japanese curry. Gooey goodness, prepared piping-hot in creamy, mild-tasting broth. Comfort food for a rain-soaked evening. Salt-grilled yellowtail head We began this entry with hamachi, so it's fitting to finish with it. Lots of sweet, meaty flesh and gorgeously gelatinous eyes on this one. Robert Mondavi, Woodbridge Chardonnay (California). continue reading
