Drove past here today and realised that the restaurant is still open! So, i thought of grabbing some dim sum for snacks. I wanted Chee Cheong Fun, but due to the time, its no longer available. Thus, I wouln't suggest to come here for tea, unless you're okay with cold dim sum.

On days when I decide to have no carbohydrates (for whatever reason it may be), I sometimes go to Key Hiong for my breakfast. I'd take my pick of seaweed-wrapped dim sums. They are all very juicy and very porky. The taste of seaweed is distinct. There are different varieties but they are very close in flavour.Tip: let the aunty take collect payment; she charges RM3.50 each but other people charge RM3.80 each!

Lau sar pau, or salted egg custard pau is one of my favourite after-dim sum dessert. Last weekend, I went to have some dim sum in Restoran Key Hiong in Taman Megah. I was looking forward to having my lau sar pau at the end, but was feeling too full. Hence, I asked the waiter if they have 'un-steamed' lau sar pau that I can take away, so that I can enjoy them later. They obliged, and packed four pieces nicely in a styrofoam. Later that evening, I took the pau and steamed it myself. The pau is very fluffy and nice. However, the filling was a bit too hard, not watery at all. Having said that, the salted egg custard was quite nice, sweet and savoury at the same time. Priced at RM1.80, it is slightly expensive, but I guess it's still OK.

Fried Loh Bak Gou (Carrot cake). The quality of this loh bak gou varies every time. If it was fresh from the frying pan, the edges would be crispy. If it has been placed there for quite some time, it will become soggy. That day we had the fresh one which was served hot. It was quite oily and it had the right saltiness. The carrot cake was slightly sticky and it was soft, not too hard.

Loh Mai Kai (Chicken glutinous rice). The loh mai kai from Key Hiong is one of the best in town despite the cheap price. The glutinous rice was sticky and moist. It also consisted mushrooms, chicken, pork slices and marinated pork. Although they were all simple ingredients, the whole loh mai kai tasted great, not too salty, just nice. This has been my dad's favourite all along.

Har Gao. The price of this dim sum house is quite cheap and the quality is not bad for the price that we are paying. The har gao does not consisted purely prawns though. It had a mixture of prawns and some minced fish paste or meat paste. The skin was not too thick. The prawns were small pieces but they were quite fresh. I would not complain this for the cheap price that I am paying.

Vegetable Siew Mai ("Choy Mai"). Apart from the siew mai, I love this restaurant's vegetable siew mai. Instead of the normal crab roe topping, this was topped with some green pepper and red pepper. Personally, i love green pepper, so I was biased to this dimsum. It was not salty, just the nice taste. The green pepper added some aroma taste to it. The fillings were moist.

Century Egg Porridge. It was served in a small bowl and a separate spoonful of spring onions. This method is good for those who dislike spring onions. Some sesame oil was added to increase the aroma of the porridge. The porridge was not the smooth type but definitely quite tasty. The century egg and minced meat was good, not too salty. I added some pepper to it for some spice.

Early morning breakfast and we opted for this fuss free dim sum place. It's convenient to our place and lots of dim sum choices here. The dim sum here is affordable but taste wise, it's average. This is Fish Paste Ball, known as "Yu Mai" in chinese. The fish paste balls were huge, bouncy, and fresh. No unwanted bad fishy taste. Slightly seasoned and lightly fried. There were some carrot strips in it. Inside is actually quite soft and juicy. The skin was a bit tough.

Of course, it wouldn't be a dim sum gathering without loads of dim sums right? One thing I really liked about this restaurant was they actually bring the hot steaming dim sums to your table every 10 minutes. The steamed Shu Mai (Prawn Dumplings) filled with broccoli, Chinese pork and shrimps. The minced meat was tender and juicy. The wonton wrappers skins were soft. It was delicious to take warm with some chilli sauce. The dumplings came in small size so that we could finish with one bite.
