Poon Choi or Big Bowl Feast always been associated with luxury feast by many. I totally disagreed as the selling point is neither luxury nor extravagance, but to have a different dining experience altogether. Very sad but it has been commercialised over the years. Kar Hee Restaurant is one of the exceptional. Customers may opt for their regular Poon Choi or may customise it according to their favour and yet still within budget between RM 250++ to RM 400++ for 8 to 10 people. Just make a call 3 days in advance for booking and some deposits required. Our customised big bowl costs RM 268 for 10 people. Instead of layering the food like in the olden days, center of attention is chicken with pumpkin and salted egg. The rest of the delicacies surround the pumpkins consists of fish (fresh fish deboned and made to fish cake look alike fish), Marmite pork spare ribs, roasted duck, steamed chicken (ayam kampung), braised pork knuckle with dried vegetables (梅菜), sweet and sour prawn, vegetables and noodles. Overall satisfied dinner except that I didn't really like the pork knuckle. Nothing wrong with it just not my cup of tea. continue reading

The Garoupa is medium sized and fried in a high heat oil. The texture is very crunchy and tasty, well marinated and floured. The fish is fresh and sweet. A nice combination with sweet sour sauce as dipping and there is no soil smell. This dish is aromatic and even the fish stomach area is fried to "Kruk Kruk", and no escape. A good serving for 4 person. The service of this restaurant is good, and that give rise to the patrons for dinner. Reasonable waiting time for the dish to arrive. continue reading
