We bought one vouchers
from Living Social offering RM10 for RM20 / RM25 for RM50 Cash Voucher for
All Food and Drinks (SStwo Mall & Plaza Low Yat) at J Kitchen. I heard
of this restaurant located in SS2 Mall and now they have opened second outlet
in Low Yat Plaza. Since working nearby we bought the voucher to try their food.
Located at LG floor just opposite Uncle Ben and Hong Kong's Food Culture .

J Kitchen is a restaurant that serve Fusion Bak Kut Teh - A
Cuisine with Combination of Chinese + Western Style. Their menu is quite
creative with the serving from rice to spaghetti topped with bak kut
teh/pork/chicken meat and etc.

We ordered the set lunch comes with one main course + drinks +
desserts. Glad to know that J Tean Kitchen is quite flexible to allow Living
Social customers to use their vouchers to redeem the set lunch too. The place
is crowded during lunch hour, but serving time is quite fast.

Dry bak kut teh rice. RM 16.90. Generous portion on the lean pork meat with flavourful gravy of the bak kut teh. Good to have it with the garlic and chili padi.

J-Porky Bun (RM16.90). Seasoned pork meat that is perfectly grilled and well marinated sandwiched in between the cucumber, tomato and chopped onions. The longish bun is extremely soft and crispy. The serving is really big and the huge pork patty is enough to be shared among two person.

Other fusion style in the menu which is the Lion Head RM 7.90. Three medium size pork meat with a bowl of sweet and sourish vegetables. The pork ball is delicious and juicy.

Roast Pork Bun RM 8.90- The staff recommended this roast pork bun. He choose steam bun for us and need to wait almost 10 -15 minutes for the serving. The bun is soft and fluffy with tender braised pork slices. But towards the end, I find it a little dry taste on the pork meat.

Chinese style setting with comfortable seats arrangement. But the service need more improvement in understanding our request and orders.

Total bill is just around RM 50 and one vouchers is successful redeemed. Happy Tuesday!

Hubby and I were in SSTwo Mall for our weekly pool game, and since it was dinner time, we decided to pop by J Tean Kitchen for some porky goodness. We decided to order the bak kut teh, as I could smell the aroma everytime I walked past this place. The bak kut teh had very good cuts of meat. The three layer meat, the long pork ribs, the pig's stomach and the mushrooms were stewed in a flavourful but mild bak kut teh soup. A good place to have bak kut teh in an air-conditioned place.

I saw the vouchers selling on groupon, then decided to try it. Not exaggerating, the pork burger is really very nice, it can be considered as one of the most delicious burger that I have ever tried (for this price). Not exaggerating, the pork burger is really very nice, it can be considered as one of the most delicious burger that I have ever tried (for this price). The patty is very tender and juicy, I think this is a very important factor for a burger to be delicious. For the Bak Kut Teh, it is very nice too, it has the taste of herbs but not too strong. I can't really describe the taste of the soup, but it really suits my taste, I know it's quite subjective. We also ordered a set of stew pork buns as snack. However it's quite disappointing me. Let's not to talk about the portion of meat inside. The meat is too dry because they should put more sauce inside the buns so that the buns can soak up the sauce. The vouchers also comes with 4 mango pudding. The taste is normal, but as I can eat the fiber of mango inside. So it affected the smoothness of the pudding. I am not very sure how much is the total bill without vouchers because there is no double patty pork burger inside the menu but for the single one, it costs RM7.90. So I guess the total bill without vouchers should be around RM80.

Tried this restaurant on my first visit to SS2 mall. There wasn't any crowd to my surprise and the service was quick and efficient due to that. The waitress was kind enough to give a little intro on the restaurant and recommended some dishes as the menu was quite unique too with several fusion dishes. I had a pork pie western styled all to myself and it was quite filling too with chunks of pork stuffed beneath the crispy crust.

This place was recommended by a friend who grew up in Klang. Must be promising, right? We ordered the Combination Bak Kut Teh (which comes with Pork ribs and Pork Belly) and it arrived in a lovely ceramic bowl. It's weird not seeing BKT in a claypot though I must say. Taste wise, the broth is rich enough with good flavours, though not the best one we've tried. The meat met our expectation in terms of tenderness. I enjoyed the flavourful pork belly, the fat just melts in my mouth. Heavenly. The only problem was that as the place was airconditioned, the soup (and rice) got cold pretty fast, thus dampened the experience. Luckily, we were able to get extra soup to get the temperature back up. I would have prefer some other offals (such as intestines) on the menu too.

The dry BKT was just ok. It was a bit one-dimensional, mostly tasted of soy sauce (thus erred on the salty side) with only a bit of sweetness. While the pork belly was tender, the rest of the meat was on the chewy side.

The pork belly buns were highly recommended by my friend. Soft pillowy man tau with braised pork belly (BKT flavoured, of course) with some julienned vegetables. I would have preferred slightly more flavour profile from perhaps more vegetables (also to cut through the richness of the pork belly). Not a bad dish.

One thing that really bugged us though, was the service. We were the only customers at 6.30pm. But we still need to actively track down the staff for service (considering we do pay the service tax here, it's only reasonable to expect attentive service, right?). The food also took a little long to arrive which is baffling, surely they would have a large pot of soup and meat ready for serving? Hopefully this is not why the place is empty, and this restaurant does have a potential to be quite popular.

The bill came to just over RM80. Probably a little more than what you would pay at regular BKT but then again you are paying for the ambience, and hopefully a little better service than what we got.

Fusion bak kut teh? J Tean Kitchen's catchphrase might sound scary, but we soon found out that its cooking isn't all that strange. Pork forms the foundation for the recipes here, with a mild herbal BKT flavor infused in much of the meat _ possibly including these ribs (the menu leaves things open to interpretation, and the service team seemed unsure). Succulent, but fairly similar to regular BBQ ribs, smothered in a sweet, sticky sauce that might have been char siew glaze. Prices are reasonable

But J Tean Kitchen doesn't just rely on plain old bak kut teh. One of their other signature dishes is called The J-Ribs (RM 34.90), and it is served in a very western way, complete with wedges and coleslaw as sides. 3 ribs is the standard amount, and they are usually quite meaty too. Cooked in this style, the ribs are given a sweet-ish flavour, very much like char siew at chicken rice stalls. The meat is tender and falls off the bone easily. However, the meat was quite dry, and if you are eating this with rice (as I did on both occasions) then you might find it a bit difficult to eat together. We also have to be critical of the 2 sides, especially on the wedges because it came with some funky sauce that neither of us could decipher. Since we were only interested in the ribs, paying the price we did felt a bit too much, and we were left wishing the ribs could have been ordered as a dish on its own. That would be a much more attractive option for us.

The tagline of J Tean Kitchen is 'The Fusion Bak Kut Teh', and that is exactly what you'll see lots of when looking at the menu. For first timer's, the best option to give everything a try would be J Tean's Bak-Kut-Teh, Combi 1 (RM 20.90) which consists of ribs, pork belly & pork stomach. For those of you who feel squeamish eating the entrails of animals, no worries - the pig stomach can be substituted for more of the ribs and belly pork (as seen in picture above. There's also some big ol' juicy mushrooms in there as well!).

Price-wise, I think J Tean Kitchen is actually quite comparable with other open-air bak kut teh stalls, which is not what you'd expect since this place is fancier and in a shopping mall. Portion-wise, I'm glad to report that J Tean really does make an effort to deliver quality. Twice I've been there now, and both times the bak kut teh combo has come out looking like that picture above. If you choose to substitute the pig stomach, then you will get 3 long ribs that are quite meaty and very tender. The pork belly also has a good ratio of meat-versus-fat (about 80-20%; the way I like it!), and is consistent with all other pieces. If you're a mushroom lover then this will be triple joy for you because the mushrooms are really big! And finally, the soup is mild without a strong herbal flavour. Whether you like it stronger or milder is a personal preference, but I prefer it mild. =)
