For as long as I can remember, I have an obsession on steamboat or any sort of hotpot where food is cooked in a pot of broth. Steamboat is comfort food on a rainy day.The plain broth base used was really tasty and good on its own. After adding the ingredients in the hot soup, more complicated flavours were brought out from the seafood and other ingredients. We had a mix of fish based ingredients and seafood. Most were really fresh and tasty.Dipped with their homemade chilli sauce, it was perfect! continue reading

Steamboat seems the best option when we are not feeling that hungry and it is already late so it is not healthy to eat too much at night. Hence, we went to Ho Kee, which is my first time there. We ordered a one person steamboat set which came with a set of fishballs, the Yong Tau Foo ingredients, tofu and vegetables. We also added the fish maw at RM 13. The fish maw seems fake but then again, not much you could expect for RM 13. I wanted to order mushrooms but they were too expensive so I ordered scallops instead which cost RM 10. We only had normal soup and there was no tom yam flavour available. The steamboat is just average for me but I still prefer shabu-shabu or the steamboat buffets. The cost was almost RM 50 including tea. Quite expensive. continue reading

Like to eat steamboat because I don't really need a good cooking skill. Throw everything into the boiling soup and wait for it to be cooked. Besides the freshness of the seafood in this restaurant, the other important character in this steamboat is the chilli. The sambal chili here is very spicy. I like to pour in a lot and dip it into my soup. It taste great to eat hot and sweaty meal during cold weather. You will feel warm for your body. continue reading
