Half boiled egg. After we dropped off my mother to SS2 market, we went into this Hailam Kopitiam to wait for her. The kopitiam was doing a very good business and it was almost full house. We managed to find an empty table further in. The soft boiled egg was done nicely, the egg white was soft and very smooth. Together with pepper and soy sauce, it made the perfect combination.

Hailam Fish Fillet Croissant. Since I saw some interesting items from the menu, I ordered this - Hailam Fish Fillet Croissant with mushroom sauce. The croissant was a big one and consisted of lettuce, tomato slices and fish fillet. The mushroom sauce was quite salty. The deep fried fish fillet was crispy and a big piece. The croissant was soft. Overall, I find this item not bad.

Tuna Egg Sandwich. We were sort of expecting the tuna egg sandwich to be a normal one, but turn out it was quite special with lots of ingredients. It consisted of tuna, egg, cucumber, tomato slices in a toast. We would suggest that the kopitiam do not put the tomato sauce because it spoilt the taste of tuna and egg. The sandwich was good without the the sour tomato sauce.

Coffee. Since I need to depart to outstation early, my parents accompanied me for breakfast in Hailam Kopitiam. Although the kopitiam does not have much customers, the service was still unattentive, it was quick difficult to flag for a waiter. My father ordered a cup of coffee. The coffee has strong coffee taste and slightly bitter. A little bit of sugar was added.

Teh. That morning I need to depart to Johor early, so I went to Hailam Kopitiam to grab a quick breakfast. The parking was a breeze on weekends morning as compared to weekdays that has very limited parking. I seated inside the air-conditioned area and sofa seat. The teh has a standard tea smell and I added some sugar into it. The milk was not too much, just nice. It was a normal teh for me.

Roti Bakar. The roti bakar was not the thin nor thick roti, I would say it was medium thickness. The roti was being grilled to perfection, although one part looked burnt but I still like golden brown and slight burnt roti. I would not mind it at all. The roti was very crispy and the middle part was light and soft. Inner has butter and kaya, although not much, but still enough.

今天来到这边的海南咖啡店，我们点了一些食物以及海南咖啡，我也点了个海南炒面，这个炒面的味道还不错，很香的酱油味，面也炒得蛮够火候的，只是稍微有点油腻了点，如果少点油的话就会更好。

Hainanese Chicken Chop was served on a piece of cabbage flooded with tomato-based gravy and some onions, peas, with fries and salad at the side. The chicken was coated with egg batter and deep-fried to crispiness. The chicken was tender and quite a big piece. However, the fries and the salad portion were so little. The gravy was slightly watery, tasted sweet and sourish.

Assam Laksa was served with fish, egg, onions, pineapple slices and tamarind. The assam laksa was served with meehoon and not the laksa noodle. This assam laksa was not served with the prawn paste, as such the broth was not fragrant and pungent at all. The broth was bland, lack of sourness and spiciness that a typical assam laksa should have. The fish was deboned and flaked and has a “fishy” taste.

With so many Kopitiam around, Hailam offer a wide range of food and beverage on its menu that is specially targeted to the local.The sambal french toast sandwich is one that mix all time local favourite to western style sandwich. The sambal stuff into the sandwich is not only spicy but superb. The taste if sambal is strong and it is not overly sweet. The aroma of the french toast scent cover the sambal smell and it was a good mixture of Asian and Western delight.
