Sunday morning is the day for families to gather together and do some catching up. For a typical Chinese family, it is none other than dim sum that makes this get together perfect. We opted to try the dim sum here and it turned out better than we thought! We were spoiled with choices from different range. The dim sum are generally fresh but the steam chee cheong fun was only so-so. Service however, was good with the waiters and waittresses being on standby throughout our entire meal. What I enjoyed though, was the ample space that enables us to dine comfortably. There is no need to move in your chair to give space to people to pass by. However, one thing to be highlighted was that throughout our meal, there were at least 4 houseflies!!!!That really annoyed me because flies equate to unhygienic food. Who knows on what surfaces these flies had landed on prior to them surrounding my food. I ended up having to eat with my right hand, and had my left hand swinging everywhere to keep the flies away from my food.  continue reading

Hai Thiam Lo Restaurant offers patrons good variety of dim sum and service. Porridge consisted of century eggs, salted eggs and lean pork. The porridge was clear and smooth. It tasted very good. Char Siew Pau. The size of the pau was not big. The pau skin was soft. The char siew filling was good, the sauce was not too sweet but aromatic. Siew Mai. The size of the siew mai was quite big compare other places. The meat was fresh Mini egg tarts. The egg tart was baked till golden brown. The layered crust was flaky and crispy. The egg custard was smooth and not too sweet.Overall the dim sums were great. continue reading

Perhaps I could do a better job than this. Compared to many hawker stalls in various places, no places did as bad as this. The rice was fluffy (okay); the long beans was cooked (thank goodness); the eggs was so pitiful (seemed like an egg for two big bowls of rice); the prawns were not fresh (gameyyy!); last but not least, bland (OMG, how could a restaurant this HUGE cooked such a bad fried rice?). THE END. continue reading
