True indeed, the soup we ordered burns my throat as it travels down my oesophagus. Malaysian style tom yum lack a little of that sensation. Nothing from when it’s in the mouth, but as it travels down your stomach, you feel the burning sensation.

There is a fair ingredient inside the soup. Prawns, fish, squids and mushrooms. To my disappointment, lack freshness. The squids and fish may not be too obvious to consumers but prawns are obviously soft . But I have to say, the soup was really rich in milk. Creamyly spicy. Lots of serai giving lovely fragrant. They were finely chopped, I suppose to increase surface area to mass ratio. Hence, it’s quite annoying to some point when drinking the soup with finely chopped substances in it.

When ordering, almost 70% of dishes on the menu were hot and spicy. So we figured that we should order at least one dish that is not spicy. Therefore, we ordered sweet and sour chicken in yam basket. I supposed the chicken were not freshly made upon ordering, but prior to that. It was coated with flour, thick coating of flour and that really gives a hard texture to the chicken. The sweet and sour sauce was delightfully rich with lots of chopped garlic. There is capsicum, carrots, baby corn, green pea, cashew nut and grapes. Yes, grapes in sweet and sour chicken. Rather peculiar combination, but the tangy combination with the sweet and sour gravy is amazing. It was a pity that their chicken was coated with thick flour. Gives a bad texture to the chicken.

Next is the fish. We ordered a chef recommended dish, the pla gao sam rod. That is a deep fried garoupa with Thai three flavours sauce in English. The sauce is indeed savoury. Fish is very fresh. However, to my disappointment the deep fried took a little longer than required. Resulting in, a very dry texture of the fish. After a about a quarter serving, I got a little tired having to chew so hard on the fish. I guess they tried a bit too hard making the fish crispy. Or maybe they coat it a little too much with flour.

Finally, the best part of every meal- dessert. All time Thai favourite, the water chestnut in coconut. Chestnut coated with colouring flour, with nangka strips in coconut and ice. Chestnut was chilled before serving. Chilled and scrumptious with mild natural sweetness from chestnut alongside nangka makes this dessert delightfully appetizing.

Lastly, not forgetting the beverages. They serve a wide range of beverage, nothing out of the extraordinary. But as always, jasmine green tea…my favourite.

Good evening Bangkok is not a very new restaurant and as the matter of fact, I’ve been here for their famous Tom Yam Kong before. A meal of Thai cuisine is somewhat real similar to those of the Chinese meal. The similarities are there as Asian culinary culture which inevitably follows. With the all time favourite Mieng Kam, a whole bunch of us kick start the meal with this famous Thai starter. Comprising of traditional Thai Leaves, it comes with 7 Condiments for RM 15.90.

Next of course would be the eminent Tom Yam Gong, the spicy Tom Yam soup with river prawn at RM 15.90. Serves about 6 person so I thought the price is somewhat acceptable.

Moving to the main dishes of the meal, there is the Khow Ob Sapparod Goong which is the pineapple fried rice with prawn topped with chicken floss for R M16. I am not too sure if chicken floss is part of the traditional and authentic Thai style but some places do topped this fried rice with chicken floss.

Next is the Gaeng Keaw Wan Gai for RM 15.90. This green curry chicken is delicious. Not too spicy and the chicken meats are tender and succulently juicy. The chicken alone is soaked with all those green curry so if not a fan of curry then eliminate the gravy. Take only the chicken alone. It goes pretty well with white rice.

There is more interesting combination with the Hor Mok Talay Nai Ma Prow Onm. We have some Thai Seafood Otak otak served in Young Coconut for RM 22.90. The Otak otak is mildly piquant and luxuriously creamy with those flavour from the young coconut.

One of the few must order dish in any Thai restaurant is the lime steam fish. The Pla Kapong Nueng Manow is a little pricy as it wasn’t really a big or any extraordinarily fresh Siakap. priced at RM 47.90, the Lime and Chilies did provide an excellent flavour to the dish.

For those with zero tolerance to spicy flavours, go for the non spicy dishes here. One is the Yam basket, which I don’t quite agree with the ‘basket’. We tried the Takra Sawan – stir fried Chicken served in Crispy Yam Basket for RM 18.90. It was palatable but not impressive as the Yam basket has got so much rooms to improve some more.

The Kana Pla Kem (Stir fried Baby Kailan with Salted Fish) is something you can get at a cheaper price anywhere else. For RM 14.90, you get some fresh Kailan you can get in Tesco and stir fried them at home and probably taste the same, or maybe better.

The place has got quite some nice dinning ambience so it is quite a nice place if you want decent and affordable Thai food without have to fly all the way to Thailand.

I always find thai food a little too predictable, its either spicy or sweet and the three most common dishes you find on the menu is tom yum, pineapple fried rice and red ruby. I was rather skeptical when the waitress suggested the tom yum soup but I gave the benefit of doubt and ordered a bowl to try. Here comes my set 1, which is the Hot Basil Leaves Set. The set comes with the stir fried minced chicken with hot basil leaves. You can choose to have chicken or beef up to your preference. Besides, it also comes with tomyam seafood soup and a Thai fragrant rice with sunny side up and a iced lemongrass drink. The meal taste is quite nice but the tomyam soup is indeed spicy.

The restaurant is quite spacious. Relaxing ambiance with decor to compliment the mood. There are a few VIP rooms but its a tight setting if you ask me. Nevertheless, a private place is available if needed.

Our first dish was the Yam Pla Duk Fu(RM17.90). Very good contrast and the flavors really got our appetite running. Unripe mango were used for a mix of sweet and sour taste. The fried catfish added some texture and crunchiness.

Next up was Tho Man Pla(RM13.90 ), which is similar to the otak-otak but with a fish ball like chewy and springy texture. However, the Thai fish cake flavor didn't really stand out compared to a standard otak-otak in terms of spiciness and fish aroma. Not sure if it was intended by the chef to drop down a notch for the spiciness of the fish cakes but the sweet chili sauce did help to enhance the overall taste. I would definitely recommend this dish for starters.

Succulent prawns wrapped in wanton skin was delicious! Its tasty enough to even eat it own its own without the plum sauce. This dish is only at RM14.90.

Don't be fooled by this clear version of tom yam soup, this soup feels very rich and packs a whole lot of spiciness. But its the type of spiciness that makes you crave for more. Some might find this one too spicy so do take note. Priced at RM12.90, that's a steal.

Another version of a tom yam soup with River Prawn. Since they were using river prawns, its slightly more expensive(RM15.90).

Thai Green curry is one of my must have dish when it comes to Thai food. The one we had was the chicken version. The texture of the curry was nice without being too thick and creamy. You get to savor the sweet and fragrant aromas coming from the coconut milk but it doesn't overshadow other flavors in the dish. The chicken version will cost you RM15.90 while the beef version is RM16.90.

Although most of us were feeling stuffed, we still had room for the pandan wrapped chicken(RM17.90). They were fantastic! The chicken was really fragrant thanks to all the pandan leaves. Despite being deep fried, the chicken was still juicy and tender on the inside.

Overall, I find it very enjoyable for Thai cuisine. I highly recommend the clear soup tom yam, the fish and pandan wrapped fried chicken for starters. Might be a little pricey but for such authentic Thai dishes, I'd say its worth it.

The restaurant is located at the new wing of One Utama. Look out for Robot Sushi restaurant because Good Evening Bangkok is just a few doors away.

If you are a sour and spicy lover, you must try out their Kerabu. It is a typical Thai appetizer. There are mixture of mango and some little chilli.
