The dishes are amazingly delicious and perfect to go with plain porridge. Most of the dishes are slightly skewed to salty probably so that it would complement the plain and bland flavour of their porridge. The tiny saucer is used to serve their dishes when customers picked them. Smaller saucers are used to serve dishes for one where else a bigger sharing portion naturally calls for a bigger plate. But all in all, they serve the simplest dishes and very close to home flavours. These braised peanuts cannot get simpler. Straight out from the can and heat it before serving. continue reading

continue reading

Salted vegetable, black bean fish, boiled nuts and anchovies. The portions were for 2 person. There are 2 dishes are priced at RM3 each, and another 2 at RM2.20 each. The salted vegetable was not salty at all, it was sweet instead. The salted vegetable were crunchy in texture too. The texture of the boiled nuts wasslightly on the hard side, not soft enough. The anchovies were salty and not crunchy enough. The black bean fish was standard taste like the one opened from can, very salty. continue reading

There are days when a "home-cooked" Chinese meal hits the spot perfectly. Not that I'd know what a home-cooked Chinese meal is, since my mum isn't Chinese and doesn't cook like one, but I'd imagine it to be something like what I had at Eat-zy recently.Stewed pork trotters - one of my favourite options here when I manage to spot enough pieces of lean meat in the tray. I'd make sure they serve me only the lean portions. I prefer my stewed meat lean. The meat is chunky and tender, and the salty-sour sauce makes a great sauce for the porridge.Their black bean bitter gourd is also done right, with the gourds cooked to softness and the bitterness dissolves into the sweetness that is brought out. The earthy saltiness from the black beans also helps negate any harsh bitterness, and leaves only a mild bitterness that's actually quite pleasant. The omelette with watercress is just a simple, satisfying filler to the meal. It's pretty much just eggs that's cooked with lots of watercress. It's neither moist nor dry, and isn't exciting at all. If you love eggs, you'll understand the appeal; else you can forget about ordering this. continue reading

There isn't much teow chew porridge that I know of. Usually I enjoy home cooked food, which is believed to be healthier and heartier.I stumbled upon this teow chew porridge place, which actually serves brown porridge (high fibre and slightly more expensive) and a great selection of meat and vegetable.Personally I love the peanuts, mui choy, the steamed meat with tong choy or salted fish. It goes very well with the bland porridge. It very well depends on the selection of dishes you choose, as some of the dishes are meant to be bland and some the opposite. Just like steamed meat with salted fish with some scrambled egg, striking a balance or your preference would be ideal. continue reading
