What an embarassing evening for me when I took my 9 Hong Kong friends there for dinner on August 17th, 2014.  First of all the skin on the roast pork was really hard, thick and dried and the pork meat was soooo... fat!  They were kind enough to change to char siu when I complained though.  So came the char siu (I think the cook was annoyed with us)... god help us because the char siu was even worst!!!  It was gooey with brown sugared sauce and even fatter.. no exegeration.  The beijing duck was

What an embarassing evening for me when I took my 9 Hong Kong friends there for dinner on August 17th, 2014.  First of all the skin on the roast pork was really hard, thick and dried and the pork meat was soooo... fat!  They were kind enough to change to char siu when I complained though.  So came the char siu (I think the cook was annoyed with us)... god help us because the char siu was even worst!!!  It was gooey with brown sugared sauce and even fatter.. no exegeration.  The beijing duck was quite good but the wrappers were dried and they did not give enough condiments to go with it.  The yee-mein that was supposed to have duck slices in it (can't see any) was so brown looking and tasted just as bad ( with too much dark sauce) and again way, way too sweet.  Luckily the rest of the dishes went down well enough.  My poor guests who always treated me so finely whenever I visited them in HK were very gracious and kept telling me not to feel bad.   I am writing this review because I am really shocked and I have never had a disaster meal like this before and lastly the meal did not come cheap either!

nowadays you see kailan handled this waymaybe it is to mask the fact that some kai lan have become to old in the fridge and this is one way to dispose of it without customers complaining that it is too oldbut the presentation of this dish is a big dissapointment compared to the illustration in the menuthe leaves were shredded very coarsely and the leaves are dark green instead of light green

besides duck, this restaurant also offers other dishessome dishes in the menu is not offered during dinner so be sure to ask the waitersthe noodle is huge for one person so it is a good sharing dishalthough i think braised noodles offset the freshness of the crab meatthere wasn't much crab meat to begin withas garnish there are some spring onions but it is mostly soy sauce noodles

the peking duck wrap is eaten as such, a piece of thin bread like pastry, a piece of duck, and some spring onionsslap on some of the special sweet sauce and munch awaythe entire set costs RM68 and the left over duck meat can be fried into something else such as rice or noodlesbut that would be an additional RM15when you order the duck, it is roasted on the spot for you so it takes around 20 minutes to after its roasted, the chef will slice the skin off the duck little by little

A very comfortable place located at jaya one. Can easily spot this location.There is a big crowd but lucky i do not need to wait or queue up as no reservation is required. Based on walk in.the place is comfortable and the duck rice is tasty. crispy skin and the chicken and roasted pork is also selling fast here. i saw many people ordered it. the rice is good but i prefer some sauce on the duck meat

This is my favourite duck drumstick herbal soup, it comes with mushroom, vegetables, gei zhi , longan and of course duck drumstick. This duck drumstick is so soft and tender. This soup base is very rich with herbs taste and delicious. This herbal soup is so aromatic. I really like it very much. All the ingredients are fresh and is really suit my taste bud. The price is quite reasonable and this soup is steamed for a few hours, that's y it's so rich taste. This herbal soup is good for health too.

The grilled squid is cooked with butter and salt and is very chewy and sweet. I could taste the fresh squid which is still bouncy and given a nice flavour from the butter and salt which tenderized it a bit. Each bite is so good because the texture is also crunchy from the skin which was grilled to smoky perfection. The portion is really generous and enough for 3-5 pax as a dish. The sauce for dipping is equally good with just enough chili to spice up an already great dish.

I have tried their Tofu with Snow Peas which I find quite good. Each beancurd has a seaweed top and the beancurd is braised with snow peas in a thick gravy which were sufficiently flavoured and tasty. The beancurd has a smooth and silky consistency and the snow peas were well cooked so that it is soft. The sauce which tasted a bit like bean sauce is a very good combination for the beancurd and peas.

I really cannot recommend enough of the Salt Baked Eight Treasure Duck. The duck has to be baked 10 hours ahead to you have to order a day in advance. The duck is deboned and stuffed with glutinous rice, wolfberries, mushrooms, shrimps, BBQ pork and over 10 other ingredients. Then it is wrapped in foil then covered in salt before baking. The result is duck meat so tender that it breaks without much efforts. The flavours were so awesome that it takes a while for you to take it all in, the combination of the herbs and rich flavour from the mushrooms, shrimps all absorbed in the rice which made the glutinous texture that much more palatable. Although salt was used, it wasn't dry at all and every ingredient did its part to give its own unique flavour.

The portion is enough for 4-6 pax on its own and costs RM98. A highly recommended dish.

Came here over the weekend to try out their famous roast duck, but we came during brunch so the lot of us decided to get dim sum along as well. The egg tarts were not bad as you could taste the sweetness of the egg custard. The crust were a little too dry and was very flaky making the tart highly unstable when applied pressure on it. Some parts of the tart crumbled when we were trying to put it in our mouth, making it a messy eat.

I have been to Jaya One for quite a number of times but I have not tried out Duck King before. Since it is a specialty restaurant for chinese ducks, I decided to give it a try. We order half a duck to try, and the best part for the dish is the duck thigh! I love the crispy aromatic skin, it is so thin and almost no fat at all. The BBQ sauce used in it is very rich, sticky and sweet. I love the salty duck flesh in it when complemented with the sweet sauce. Simply delicious! Other dishes like BBQ
