Like many other Korean restaurants, the ban chan (side dishes) would rotate every once in a while so one would actually need to visit pretty frequently to actually taste it all. One of the many reasons which is the obvious treat and delight many people love about the Korean BBQ is the array of side dishes. With that, it becomes an important factor to keep customers returning for more.

Da O Re seems to be one that really manages well and still retaining their customers despite the use of local ingredients to replace Korean ingredients. Then again, the prices are considerably reasonable compared to some which is slightly overpriced. Having said that, they don’t actually vary too much.

Kimchi. The birthday girl wanted Korean food as birthday dinner, so we went to this famous Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant in SS2. I was so lucky to get a party there during evening time as parking can be troublesome at this area. One of the must-have banchan was kimchi. Daorae kimchi does not have extreme tangy flavour, thus I like it. It was not too spicy and mix well with the BBQ dishes.

I thought i can attempt sharing food here, end up i have ordered 11 different of food cause we had 11 people there. Tried at other Korean restaurant but there are not like this restaurant so force-yy. But my family did have great experience on Korean food.

Spicy potato. The outlook of this banchan does not looked tempting because of the extremely red color coating. I would called this as kimchi potato due to the red color. The potato was not too soft, the coating was red but it was not spicy though. I would rather they marinate the potato pieces in a different manner so that it will looking more tempting. A normal banchan.

Coleslaw. There were several banchan that I do not what ingredients that Daorae used, one of them was this "coleslaw". Well, I do not know what is the exact name of this banchan but it does look like coleslaw and tasted like one. It was made of carrot, beansporuts, green peppers with some coleslaw sauce. Overall, it was sightly sweet with some crunchiness from the green pepper.

Beansprouts and anchovies. We were given several banchan and among those, these are beansprouts and anchovies. The beansprouts were cooked with some carrot slices. The carrot slices added some sweetness to the beansprouts, if not the beansprouts would have tasted bland. It has some slight crunchiness. The anchovies were big and the taste was not too salty.

Steamed egg. Apart from the seaweed soup which was complimentary, Daorae gave us complimentary steamed egg too. The steamed egg was served in very hot claypot and it was still bubbling when it was served. We let the steamed to sort of cool down first before we start to dig in. The texture of the steamed egg was not too rough, it was soft but not smooth enough. Not too salty.

Seaweed soup. We celebrated a friend's birthday in Daorae and we were seated at a tatami style of seating which was a bit uncomfortable if we stay long. We were given a complimentary seaweed soup each. The seaweed soup was filled with seaweed and they were soft. Although the whole soup was seaweed base, it was not too salty at all. I finished the whole bowl of soup.

Go cho jang sam kyub sal. It is slices of belly pork marinated with Korean traditional chili sauce. When it was being placed in the charcoal stove, the pork belly was a piece of nice belly with fats and lean meat well balanced. After grilled, it was reddish in color and slightly spicy only. The fats were not too much, and I ate the whole piece instead of separating the fats out.

Soon dubu jjigae. We ordered a pot of soup too and it was filled with soft tofu with fresh shellfish, simmered in a spicy broth, together with rice. When this soup was served, it was extremely red in color. I took a sip of it and the soup was quite powdery, spicy but still tolerable. The ingredients were a lot though, lots of meat, clams. Not a bad pot of soup I would say.

Kimchi pancake. Since I had tried the seafood pancake last time, I told my friends to order the kimchi pancake instead. The pancake came in dark brown reddish color, it has onions, chilli and spring onions in it. Again, it was quite floury, but since it was coated with kimchi, the kimchi taste overpowered the floury taste of it. The pancake was not crispy, quite soft.

Bibimbap. Since bibimbap is a Korean specialty, we ordered it as well. The hot pot rice was topped with carrot, spinach, cucumber, beansprouts, mushroom and egg. I was given a paste to mix with all the ingredients. I was busy stirring all the things up and to avoid the ingredients being burnt by the hot pot. It was filled with ingredients and the taste was not too salty, just nicely done.

Hanbang Dweji Wang Galbi. This is pork ribs marinated in special korean ginseng and herbs extracts together with sweet soy sauce. There were a variety of pork selection, so I went with the top one that is bigger picture. The pork ribs were slightly salty due to the herb extracts. Although it was mentioned ginseng but I failed to taste ginseng in the pork. The meat was not too soft.

The seafood pancake was a really big portion. It came with a saucer plate of chilli dipping sauce, which was slightly spicy and salty. The pancake consisted spring onions, chilli, cuttlefish and was pan fried. I am not a fan of soft pancake texture, I would prefer it to be more crispy and thin. Daorae version was soft and slightly thick. However, the pancake has the freshness of the seafood and not too salty.

The BBQ is a must-do thing when I patron a Korean restaurant. We ordered the marinated pork slices that came with a balanced amount of fats and lean meat. After barbequing it, the waiter put it into a bowl. The pork slices were fragrant, slightly salty but the meat texture was a bit tough, I have no idea why. I love the slightly burnt edges of the pork slices that gave it a crispy bite.
