Barli warm. The Char Siew Zhai Wantan Mee is famous for its "high-flying" wantan mee while cooking it. The restaurant was quite hot and I still decided to go ahead to order barli without ice. It came in luke warm. Luckily it was not hot, if not, I would be sweating like mad. The barli was sweet and not too diluted nor thick. It has some barli in it, nice to chew. Normal drink.

Curry wantan mee. That day I felt bored of ordering the normal wantan mee with dumpling and I ordered a curry wantan mee instead. It came with tao fu pok, long bean with some curry leaves. The curry broth was quite spicy but it was not thick enough, seemed a bit diluted. The curry aroma was not fragrant too. The tao fu pok and long beans were soft. Overall, it was just a so-so dish.

Pork Curry. Among the wide offerings in Char Siew Zhai, we chose pork curry to try. This bowl of curry was slightly oily but still bearable. The curry was thick and fragrant but it was extremely salty. I could barely eat the curry pork by itself. On a brighter note, the pork was soft and can be chewed easily. The curry was slightly spicy. If the restaurant toned down the saltiness of this dish, I would not mind ordering again.

Plain wantanmee. Char Siew Zhai is famous for its wantanmee and I agree with the statement after eating it. The wantanmee was springy and each strain does not stick or clumped together. It was well coated with the sauce that was not too salty, just nice. The wantanmee does not have the alkaline taste, thus it was very good. I could not stop myself from eating the whole plate.

Steamed chicken. Apart from the famous char siew (caramelized pork), we ordered the steamed chicken. The steamed chicken was covered with soy sauce and it was quite meaty too. This dish was not oily as the chicken was being steamed. The meat was sweet with some saltiness added on by the soy sauce. This would make a healthy dish apart from the char siew or roasted pork.
