They always say that no one knows you more than your own parent. Which was why my mom brought me to Busaba for lunch with a friend of hers because she knows how much I love having Thai food. And she's given super great reviews of this place, plus after dining there a month or two ago, I can't stop thinking about the food there. So she brought me back there for lunch as a treat again. A mandatory order whenever we could is the Meng Kiam starters. Usually you would have to wrap the little bits of food in the leaves ourselves, but not here. At Busaba, each portions are individually wrapped for you. So all that we had to do was add the bean paste sauce as much as you like then eat it all in one bite. This is simple but really good. Then again, based on good reviews by the mom, she also ordered these Thai fish cakes. I usually turn away from these whenever I see them because they are never something I like to eat. However I took one piece and found them really good, flavourful plus bouncy and chewy rather than soft. I liked this but would not immediately order it as a first choice. Another thing that we like to order is Mango Salad. No where I have dined at ever make such good mango salad like Busaba does because they are very generous with all the crunchy toppings and there's super good spice & tangyness. Then as an added bonus for me, it also comes with this giant prawn's head which I always take the liberty to slurp up all the goodness from it. Yummy with a capital Y. AND MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE OF THE DAY! The squid steamed with garlic, chillies and garlic sauce. Although the squid was really good and crunchy, I also really loved the soup that it was swimming in. I kept going back for more and more, even after my mouth was burning from the heat. Although the price tag on the food is rather high, the quality of food that we get is very much worth it. Sometimes it is worth to splurge and treat ourselves to a good meal every now and then.  continue reading

Another week, another insanely beautiful restaurant opens at BSC. Busaba exudes a calm splendor that makes it ideal for a memorable meal. Fish maw salad. A marvelous mix of tastes and textures; light, crisp maw with fresh veggies and crunchy cashews, all tossed in a tangy, delicate dressing. Coconut soup with chicken & mushrooms. Reasonably thick and aromatic, brimming with enough ingredients to make a hearty meal even by itself. Steamed sea bass with garlic, ginger & onions. Firm, fresh and fleshy fish; not as piquant as some might expect, but we still devoured everything except the bones. Asparagus with shrimp paste & prawns. Well-prepared, but not terribly thrilling. Southern-style beef curry with peanuts & potatoes. Tender meat in a curry that wasn't as creamy as we might have preferred. Still, it struck a nice balance between being spicy enough to titillate our taste buds and mild enough to keep our digestive systems calm. Evan & Tate Salisbury Cabernet Merlot. A fair selection of wine is available by the bottle, but there are too few choices by the glass. The drawbacks: iced & warm water isn't served for free, so customers have to order mineral water. Also, the food seems laden with MSG, since we were thirsty for hours. continue reading
