To be honest, no trip to Penang is truly complete unless we splurge on a dinner at Bali Hai. Although most of the locals would say tht it is overrated and also somewhat overpriced, it just feels rather incomplete if we do not dine here. So what's a seafood dinner without crabs. So what's a seafood dinner without crabs. Not just any kind of crab but Chilli Crab with it's sweet and spicy sauce which is perfect when dipped with fried mantao, which was pretty good when it arrived at our table. Everybody loved this dish especially since the crab is very fresh and the sauce was super good, nothing was left behind at the end of the night.

Then we got the Steamed Tiger prawns. THIS WAS SO SO SOOOO GOOD! The prawns were super fresh cause minutes before they were still happily swimming in the tank, so the meat is super succulent & juicy. Plus it had a hint of chinese wine kind of taste to it so that just amplifies the sweetness of the prawns even more. I had so much of this.

Because we just can't seem to get enough of seafood, we also ordered steamed tilapia in sweet soya sauce. Since the fish was super fresh there was no need to cover up it's nice sweetness with any kind of other sauce and that was a good decision that night - we all loved this dish so much. By the end of our meal all that was left on the plate was the bones of the fish.

Since we need some vegetables to counteract our guilt for eating so much seafood, we also ordered a plate of the four heavenly kings stir-fried in belacan. I don't know why but they gave so much petai on this plate that it felt almost like a petai dish which I kind of turned away from. Though the petai-lovers at the table enjoyed this like crazy.

Steamed mantis prawn with ginger and spring onions

This steamed mantis prawn is a definitely one of the highlights of this seafood restaurant. It is simply delicious. The mantis prawn is so fresh as the flesh is juicy, sweet and succulent. The sweetness of the specially made soya sauce make the mantis prawn more outstanding. It is best served with a bowl of steamed jasmine rice

Bali Hai Seafood Market is quite crowded especially during weekend. Customers have a choice to pick and choose their seafood from the rows of aquarium.Cheese Baked LobstersThis dish is the cheese baked lobsters. The lobsters are fresh. The flesh is very sweet and soft. They are not stingy to add the cheese on the lobsters. So, it is very cheesy. The taste of both lobsters and cheese combined perfectly.

Slices of mushroom also add some juiciness to it. Best eaten while hot with some chilli paste too

Have a visit to Gurney Plaza this morning to have dim sum. Lovely place, as Bali Hai did serve dim sum in the morning and seafood at night. There is a lot of variety and amongst are siew mai, prawn taufu roll salad, glutinuous rice "loh mai kai"; har kau (prawn dumpling). The siew mai is tasty but a little small in size. The prawn dumpling is fine with fresh prawn and here, they use stainless steel container instead of the bamboo for steaming.

Bali Hai does serves dim sums in the morning and here you can always see many old people come here to dine especially in the morning on weekdays. This time, i order the siew mai and other dim sums as well like ha kao, chicken feet and more. The dim sum is served hot but the it is slightly cold and meaty to me. I do not really like the dim sum anyway and the service are also not in par.

I was with my family that day after spending hours at botanical garden and off for dim sum breakfast at Bali Hai Seafood Market. The most mouth watering food was their chicken porridge, 'dan tat', 'chee jiong fan'. The taste was really good and price not too expensive too. Location wise is just facing the sea and after dim sum can have a walk to nearby shopping mall-Gurney Plaze! (My favourite as well)

Loh Mai Kai or direct translation to mean Glutinous Rice with Chicken is a Chinese "dim sum" dish. For sure it is a very nice breakfast to eat and Bali Hai Seafood market definitely is the rightful venue to eat various kind of dim sum. It comes in a small sized GREEN bowl when served. The chicken is only small piece but the chicky taste blends together with the OILY cooked starchy rice, mushrooms give me sense of fullness when I just eat halfway. It goes so well with hot Chinese tea.

Yeepie~ Finally there is one day where I can wake up early and go to eat my favorite dim sum. We order a Chinese tea, called "san wei" (three taste if direct translate from Mandarin). The three taste are "Pu Er", Chrysanthemum and "Xiang Pian" and it come with some sweet taste. One of my recommend food is "hong kong style fan cheong". It is perfectly match with some sambal and fried onion and also the special sauce.Bali Hai Dim Sum is always full of people, so if you want, better come early.

During weekends, the dimsum are needed to be self service while during usual day, there will be some one to serve you. I went there together with dear, mum and dad during my trip to Penang. So, look at what we had ordered. We ordered some fried dim sum as well as some stim one, pau and others.

The dim sums is not really above par and I felt it is slightly meaty as well. The dim sum portion is also small and the pau taste is slightly dry.
