In fact, the original idea for this restaurant was to have a concept of Poker theme where patrons can come and enjoy a game or two on Poker while relishing the nice food and drinks, but unfortunately this is not possible in Malaysia – given that this is a public place.

The ambience of this restaurant is very relaxing and cosy; they even have a leather sofa for you and your friends to chill out.

There are a few specialties pork dishes. We start off with the starter, which is the Enoki Bacon Skewers –the combination was unique where Enoki is used as the wrapped filling. The chef uses only tender pork cutlet, which were very well marinated and wrapped with the Enoki and prime cut bacon strips served on a skewer and barbeque to the right texture served with a yolk dip. The taste was superb, the Enoki really blended very well with the succulent meat. The combination taste of bacon, pork and Enoki was very seductive i.e. you won’t mind a second helping.

There are many variations of Pork Knuckle serve in many restaurants. Firstly there is the salty German version, which is the most famous type serves in most places, the Chinese version either serves in butter sauce, deep fried version or roast. I have the luxury of tasting the fourth one today in the last 3 months. You can view my other Pork Knuckle rendezvous in my other post.

At Ante Kitchen And Bar, the version serves here is an Oven Baked version. The chef have deboned and cut into bite size pieces making it less challenging to savour this knuckle which is suitable as a sharing dish.

The first taste of the knuckle skin was very crispy and crunchy. It was very marinated and not too salty to my liking. After savouring the crispy knuckle skin, the next attack is on the meat portion. As it is oven baked, the end result is that the meat was a little tougher; it is not so succulent compared to those that were deep fried as the deep fried version if fry properly is a little more succulent. If the pork knuckle is overcooked before being oven baked/fried, the meat can be a little harder, tough and less juicy. For me, only the crispy knuckle skin was the saving grace for this dish.

Cooking a perfect steak especially Pork Steak is very challenging. First of all, it will how the chef will marinate the steak for a period of time. We are able to taste the marinate, which was in grain into the meat. The steak comes with in-house prepared raspberry cream sauce, which is of a sweet base, and blended quite well with the succulent and juicy steak.

The garnishing of the steak was potato wedges which was deep fried and a baked green apple (the apple was first peel of its skin beyond going for a salt water bath and oven baked). An unique garnishing indeed.

The serving is a full rack ribs and this is ideal as dish to share with your friends and companion but I understand that there are customers who can eat the whole plate by oneself. If you are a beer drinker, this is an ideal complimentary dish.

The version serves here is slightly different and it comes with the sweet caramelized sauce which was served with the meat. Frankly speaking, I would have preferred the sauce to be served as a special dip instead of spreading onto the meat. This makes the skin to be a little softer and causes the skin to lose the crisp and crunch which turn off a great dish.

The Hoggers Pork Ribs - RM75

Undeniable, a mouth-watering dish that got all of us craving for more. I liked that the meat can be easilly cut/peeled off from the bones - it makes eating so much easier since I never was a fan of ribs at all. The first bite was heavenly as well, the tenderness of the meat was uncomparable to any I have eaten so far.

The barbequed sauce dripping all over the meat was great - but not great enough to wow me like the tenderness of the meat. I could taste it clearly within my first bite but the flavor was somehow only evident in the outer layer. I assume the overnight marination didn't apply well enough to infuse the flavors deep into the meat itself.

Char-grilled Pork Steak - RM28

Large chunky pork meat, grilled to a decent state in New York style. The meat was again, amazingly tender and juicy, especially when added with the sweet raspberry sauce. Definitely an odd mix but the sweet and cold embodiment of the raspberry and yoghurt cream turned out to be a perfect dipping sauce for the steak.

The pork steak is also served with that apple-shaped piece, which is actually baked apple. I'm pretty bummed out when I realized I didn't get a bite of it towards the end of the meal but I heard from Jackson that it tasted soooo good.

Volcano Sacrifice - RM30

A dish that actually let me down, because the meat was extremely dry and hard. It was tough enough that I had to chew for a couple of minutes in order to disintegrate a piece of meat.. Regardless of so, the mashed potato and spicy sweet gravy was an excellent side dish, and a prefered pick compared to the pork meat.

Unlike the usual pizzas which are served circularly, Ante's was a surprising take since theirs were pretty flat and shaped in a long rectangulared piece. The significant point of the pizzas were the homemade crusts, which were thinly crusted to minimize the amount of satiation you'd feel after gobbling many slices of pizzas.

Both pizzas are originating from the same recipe with the exact tomato base. Of course, the vegetarian one, do not consist of meat (duh). Being a meat lover, I still preferred the original Chorizo one which had bits of bacon that I love. The vegetarian one seemed pretty bland and meh after inconspicuously having the Bacon Chorizo haha. But its still great for mushroom lovers as it does pack quite a lot of chunky mushrooms as the topping! Chorizo actually means flavored sausage, in case you don't know.

The Real Bacon Carbonara - RM26

Delish-loving siganture pasta of Ante's, cooked along side pork bacon, onions, mushrooms, crispy bacon, with tons of cheese. Maybe too much of it since it came out extremely creamy and thick, but some might love it for that. I do have to agree that it was like the ultimate carbonara, with the essense of cheese multiplied tenfold. The next time I'd order this, I would request for one with lesser cheese though.

Curry Cream Pasta - RM25

Possibly the best pasta I am unlikely to order on my own since.. curry seemed so absurd to go with pasta in the first place. However baffled I am, this dish came out to be perfect. Although still slightly on the creamier side, the flavor of sweet curry here is amazing, and yet still not overpowering the cream base of the pasta.

Up The Ante Pork Burger - RM35

A classic twist from the usual ordinary or mainstream burger, Ante's gourmet burger differs in such a way that their buns are actually raisin-filled bun, which tasted closely similar to wholegrain wheat bread. It tasted really good that I can even eat it on its own, but when eaten with the patty as a burger? Not so much.

The pork patty on the other hand, was grilled to perfection with the right amount of juiciness I would want from a perfect burger. The idea of pork patty wrapped with bacon and topped with scrumptious egg will never get old (°∀°)b

Sweet Belly - RM23

Literally is pork belly marinated in sweet sauce. This 'siu yuk' meat was extremely soft to begin with, and had a nice cutting of meat with equal portion of skinny, lean meat as well as the fatty meat. I secretly expected the sauce to taste like typical 'cha siu' sauce but it came out enticingly different, and resulted in something sweeter like.. caramel. We tried asking what sauce was used here but apparently it was their secret secret special sauce, that isn't supposed to be revealed. Hahahaha.

Enoki Bacon Skewers - RM26Main highlight of the day lol. I recall having a similar dish like this in Thailand but so far Ante is the first to present this back to me here in Malaysia. Enoki mushrooms are cooked and wrapped with juicy, thick bacon as well as pork slices, marinated and deliciously tasting like Teriyaki sauce. It tastes even better when it's dipped in the egg yolk gravy! I could eat this endlessly, although having to pay RM26 for 5 sticks may seem a bit on the high side for me.

The mushroom soup comes second on my list. Grinded mushroom in thick, cream-ish soup is a winning combo that nobody can resist. The white stuff on the surface of the soup is actually cream dressed as garnishing, served with crispy fried bread crumbs.

For a first-timer like me, I actually took a daring try of the Banananilla and instantly regretted so. It wasn't bad, but it tasted oddly weird to fit in, what with the combination of banana, vanilla cream and soda while the fizziness of the soda just made the Banananilla somehow similar to alchohol champagne. But it's still kinda weird though haha.
