One of the must-haves during lunch outings is pork, as the cafeteria in the office does not serve this. We ordered the spare ribs as an afterthought, and it was a good thing that it was served together with the other dishes. The spare ribs were very meaty, tender and juicy. Some special brown sauce was poured over it, which makes it super yummeh! Served on a bed of lettuce, it was most enjoyable. Definitely recommended!

One of Ah Lye's famous dish is the baked salted chicken. Since there were the five of us, we decided to order a whole chicken to share. The dish came, and the chicken was moderately sized, not too big. It was cut in fours and served on a metal plate. The chicken was well marinated with lots of Chinese herbs. The meat was tender, and the herbs seeped into it well. The only grouse was that it was a bit too dry. Nevertheless, the chicken was consumed in no time.

One of our colleagues wanted to have kangkung belacan as she saw in one of the reviews, it should not be missed. We ordered, and it came pretty quick. I was surprised to see that they have some decent sized prawns fried together with the kangkung belacan. Normally, it would just be some dried shrimps. Nevertheless, the kangkung itself was fresh and crunchy, full of belacan taste. Slightly salty, but just right when eaten with white rice. The prawns were a good addition to the vegetables, giving

Once the curry fish head in claypot was served, the rest of the dishes came fairly quickly. The next item that came was the fried foochok. I enjoyed this immensely. The foochok skin was crispy, without being too oily. The filling of pork, bits of carrots, chopped leeks and spring onions reminded me a bit of the lor bak in Medan Selera SS2. There weren't any accompanying sauce, but that was fine because the fried foochok itself was quite juicy. Definitely recommended!

We googled a few places, and settled on Ah Lye Curry Fish Head Restaurant as the reviews seemed to be pretty good. We arrived, and business was in full swing. The place wasn't really big, just one shoplot. There were about twelve tables altogether, and most patrons were groups office workers. Since the place was pretty small, the noise level within it was quite loud. We quickly ordered, anticipating that the food served will take awhile, due to the fact that there were at least four tables still waiting for their food. After waiting for about 20 minutes, the curry fish head in claypot arrived. By then we all slightly grumbling, as we were very very hungry. The plates of rice came soon after, and we tucked in heartily. The curry fish head was really nice, piping hot but not too spicy. There were lots of fish heads in the pot, so we could have second helpings. The other ingredients such as tau pok, ladies fingers and brinjals were moderate, but still delicious. Definitely worth the wait and the noise.
