Uncle Chong started as a humble restaurant at Endah Parade shopping centre at Bukit Jalil in 2006. It carries a family recipe that has withstood the test of time in the market for more than 40 years. To cater to a younger crowd, a second outlet was opened in One Shamelin and rebranded as Uncle Chong’s Kitchen in 2012. The new restaurant specializes in PORK FREE local delights, including Curry Laksa, Asam Laksa, Nasi Lemak and Chicken Rice (click here to view full menu).

For noodles, the signature Curry Laksa is definitely top on the list. What distinguishes Uncle Chong’s Curry Laksa from the rest is the thick and fragrant curry soup prepared using a closely guarded family recipe that has been passed down for generations. The Curry Laksa comes with smooth poached chicken, fresh cockles, and deep fried tofu. Spicy but tasty for sure!
Asam Laksa is another crowd-puller. The springy rice noodles are soaked in spicy and thick fish gravy to whet your appetite. Also popular is the Ipoh Koay Teow Soup, which is soup noodle with smooth and slippery hor fun (flat rice noodles), fresh prawns and chicken slices. For Thai food lovers, the spicy and sour Tom Yam Seafood Noodles with fresh prawns and squids is a must-try. The last noodle dish is Uncle Chong’s signature La La Fried Mee Hoon Special, which is vermicelli stir-fried with a generous portion of fresh lala clams!
For rice dishes, a must-have is Uncle Chong’s Nasi Lemak Special. The delicious nasi lemak is served with spicy rendang chicken, sambal sotong, ikan bilis, peanut, and cucumber. The secret of the dish lies in its sambal chili sauce, which is freshly homemade daily with a secret recipe, lending fragrant and spicy flavours to the rice.
Another best-selling item is Nasi Pad Prik Thailand, which is rice that comes with a separate plate of chicken slices stir-fried with clams, prawns, and vegetables in spicy and sour sauce. Also special is the Pattaya Fried Rice. The fragrant fried rice is wrapped in a thin layer of fried egg, making it a feast for the eyes and palate!
If you have a low tolerance for spicy food, opt for Yang Zhou Fried Rice, which is cooked in Chinese style with prawns, egg, beans and sliced fish cakes. The last rice dish is Grill Sting Ray in Portuguese Style, which is fresh sting ray that is grilled in Portuguese style with spicy chili sauce. The fish is wrapped in aluminium foil for grilling to infuse the rich flavours of chili sauce into the fish.
