Recently opened its door to the public in 2013, The Roast House at Kuchai Lama is a specialist in Hong Kong style roast meats, including barbecued pork, roast pork, roast duck and roast chicken. The main chef is a seasoned chef who has been working in the industry for more than 10 years. All meats are freshly roasted by the chef daily to ensure the roast meats are fragrant and meltingly soft.
Apart from roast meats, the restaurant also offers a good selection of noodles, such as wanton noodles, Hakka noodles, and Ipoh chicken hor fun. All dishes on the menu are reasonably priced to ensure all customers leave the restaurant satisfied.
During the food tasting session, the restaurant will serve 6 mouth-watering dishes to whet your appetite:
1. Barbecue Pork “Ngam Yin Siew Wan” Rice 黯然销魂叉烧饭
The signature dish of The Roast House. The name of the rice is derived from Stephen Chow’s classic comedy film, The God of Cookery. The film is so popular that “Ngam Yin Siew Wan Rice” has become a synonym of Barbecue Pork Rice in Hong Kong.
The best-selling rice comes with barbecue pork, fried egg, and boiled vegetable. The honey-glazed barbecue pork is prepared using only premium pork belly with meat and fat. Moistened with barbecue sauce, the barbecue pork is so soft that it melts in your mouth!
2. Roast Meat Platter 烧腊拼盘
Try all the delicious roast meats in one go! The platter comes with a mixture of barbecue pork, roast pork, roast duck and roast chicken. The barbecue pork is skillfully barbecued until soft and juicy. The roast pork is so crispy that you can hear the crackling sound when biting into the skin!
The roast duck, on the other hand, is roasted to perfection until the skin is golden brown and crispy. Remember to dip the meat into the house special sauce made of roast duck oil and Chinese herbs to enhance the taste. Also tantalizing is the roast chicken with crispy skin and succulent meat.
3. Barbecue Pork with Noodles 蜜汁叉烧面
A must-have for lovers of wanton noodles. The noodles are served with barbecue meat, boiled vegetable and a bowl of soup. Tantalize your taste-buds with the thin and crispy noodles as well as the moist and tender honey-glazed barbecue pork.
4. Traditional Hakka Noodles 古早味客家面
One of the restaurant’s signature noodles. It is prepared in traditional Hakka style with flat noodles that are topped with lots of minced meat and spring onions. Stir the noodles with the minced meat before you eat to infuse the noodles with the rich flavours of meat.
5. Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun 怡保鸡丝河粉
The smooth and slippery hor fun is served with fresh shrimps, chicken slices, and spring onions. Drizzled with prawn oil, the soup is rich in prawn taste. Satisfy your palate with warm and delicious noodles that are freshly cooked to order.
6. Wanton (Shrimp and Pork) Soup (6 pieces) 鲜虾肉球云吞汤(六件)
Highly recommended by the chef. A bowl of wanton soup comes with six large-sized wanton. Sink your teeth into the firm yet bouncy wantons that are filled with fresh shrimps and pork meat. The size of the wanton is at least two to three times bigger than an ordinary wanton!
Participants will also have a chance to try the restaurant’s new and popular dessert, Kulai Lou Pan Organic Beancurd, which is made of 100% natural ingredients. The beancurd is smooth and naturally sweet.
