2017-08-02
Those who enjoy atmospheric, comfortable places surely must have Sri Petaling somewhere on their radar. You may not be able to tell from a single glance, but the suburb is one of the best places you could scout for perfect spots to have some tea in.

Be it to find a place to chill at with some tea or to find a great place to have your afternoon tea at, here are 10 best places you could unwind at over a cuppa.

1. Mango Cottage

By the same pioneers who brought us Hui Lau Shan, they have taken us by storm with another mango-oriented café. They speak to the hearts of Southeast Asians as, similar to Hui Lau Shan, Mango Cottage is — as its name says — all about mangoes. Aside from mango desserts, they prove that even fried delights can be well-complemented by mangoes, as illustrated by their chicken fingers, which you're encouraged to eat with mango sauce.

Located a floor above Sichuan Steamboat & Grill Fish, Butterfly Dessert Café is a sophisticated place that offers everything right and suitable for an afternoon tea. Delectable cakes await, with the Orange Mango Trifle being the best seller and the rage of many customers, featuring a silk-textured mousse made with both oranges and mangoes. On top of this, six types of tea are available for you to choose from.

Wings is a “music café”, a café where you can chill at with some bomb-tastic food while you listen to talented freelancers perform on its small stage. That being said, Wings has plenty of lighter bites available, including milk tea, fresh tea and ice-cream. You can also opt for the combination of French fries and tea. There’s no harm in consuming some nice carbohydrates every once in a while!

The goal is in the name — CRP45 Wellness puts an emphasis on their patrons’ health, therefore offering healthy food. Their signature salad is a favourite; instead of the usual lettuces and tofu, this bowl has tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled ume, raisins and sesame seeds. The cakes are also delicious without feeling too creamy and make a good pair with some white ginger lily tea.

A lovely environment with the most aesthetic of decorations and interiors make for a great place for some afternoon tea. Tiny Temptress will tempt you with their desserts, going from the oolong-infused chocolate mousse Bear Necessity to salted egg yolk macarons. Complete your journey with the Iced Summer Tea that wonderfully fuses the earthly flavours of chamomile and hibiscus.

Strawberry waffles dominate a part of the business at Soft Launch Café, whereby a waffle is folded in half, generously slathered on with whipped cream and filled with sliced strawberries. A small cup of maple syrup will be provided to further sweeten up your experience. Don’t miss out on the soft-serve too, coming in chocolate, pistachio or a fusion of both.

If you’re constantly up to date with the internet, we’re sure you’ve seen the water mochi — a big blob of mochi that’s transparent! Essentially, it’s tasteless and is eaten with roasted soybean powder and sugar syrup at Minamotonoya Café. To spice up your afternoon tea, opt for the Ice Hill Mojito instead — frozen juice spheres sit in a small glass, waiting to be poured all over and by a choice of either soda or carbonated water to induce a magical wave of fog (and flavour)!

Cream puff lovers will be thrilled by Dessert Bar’s spin on the French dessert. Each plate features a big ol’ cream puff with different fillings that go from French vanilla to green tea. Cakes come in all sorts of admirable shape and flavour — you could tell the owners put a lot of effort into them. A selection that goes from yuzu to coconut, lime to Belgian chocolate is hard to go wrong with!

Do you want to live in The Hobbit? Well, we have just the place for you! The Shire Café bleeds with obvious inspiration from the franchise as well as The Lord Of The Rings. The menu is small, but fare just enough for your afternoon tea. Definitely opt for the Shire Coffee. Waffles are also here to soften up your day, served with either smoked salmon or beef.

Korean cafés make for great sanctuaries for those who just want a nice place to relax at. Bingsu is a must here, and it’s just one of many kinds of offerings you can get at Sul So Dam besides Korean tea and the usual lighter bites such as gimbap. K-pop videos are also often played on screen, so those who consider themselves fanatics may fancy this place. Fantastic, baby!
