Hunt for the top western variety restaurant
1. Art Cacao @ K.L. Le Meridien
The chocolate salon’s infamous 70% Hot Chocolate may just be the chocolate lover’s dream come true. Top-quality bittersweet chocolate by Vero, Hong Kong’s artisan chocolatier, is liquefied into an intense, smooth, dark tonic. Just before serving, a bittersweet-chocolate disk — also available in mint or raspberry flavor — is laid atop the shot glass filled with the hot chocolate, and slowly melts into a layer of luscious, gooey, chocolaty goodness. It’s so thick that you’ll need to devour it with a spoon!

2. HotShots Coffee & Tea @ Solaris Dutamas, K.L.
Their version is named, simply, Seriously Rich Hot Chocolate, which is self-explanatory but true in every sense. It’s thick, rich, and lethally chocolaty. So smooth that it feels soothing on the throat. Two large chunks of marshies make it even more decadent. Allow them to swim in the hot chocolate bath first, though, before indulging for extra gooeyness. The cuppa is complemented with slices of juicy strawberry and a cookie. What more can you ask for, seriously?

3. Exhibit Café @ T.T.D.I., K.L.
This obscure neighborhood café, located upstairs of a dental clinic, lets you enjoy hot chocolate two ways. First, it’s a dark version (literally) made with chefs’-preferred Valrhona bittersweet chocolate. Then, there’s this blonde version (again, literally) that reminds you of butterscotch. Both are full-bodied, creamy, and oh-so-dreamy — that you’ll be served only half a mug full!Image courtesy of Rebecca Saw.
A haven of baked treats, good coffee, and café-inspired foods. Here, they whip up hot chocolate in various flavors — like mint and banana — that are to die for. They are perfectly nuanced, none overpowers the others, and not too sweet. What a brilliant twists from the normal hot chocolate!
Still, regardless of your choice, the guarantee is a satisfying hot chocolate that’s silky, warm, and comforting. Vegans and non-vegetarians alike would be pleased.

5. Monjo Coffee @ Shaftsbury Square, Cyberjaya
Here, the drink is made with Marou premium single-origin chocolate from Vietnam. The chocolate connoisseur in you will get to decide if it’s 65%, 70%, or 78%, and whether you want yours with whole or skim milk or go vegan with the healthier soy milk! Still, regardless of your choice, the guarantee is a satisfying hot chocolate that’s silky, warm, and comforting. Vegans and non-vegetarians alike would be pleased.

6. Epiphany Coffee & Tobacco @ Oasis Ara Damansara, P.J.
To say that the hot chocolate here is smooth, voluptuous, and comforting is kind of an understatement. It’s served at the right temperature, neither too hot nor too cold. Topping it off is a handsome hunk of marshmallow — of chocolate, chocolate chip, marmalade, or durian flavor, totally up to you. Submerge it in the hot liquid chocolate for a good few minutes to let it inject its own flavor into the party while becoming softened up and absorbing every bit of chocolaty goodness.
