Not only we get to choose from Malay, Chinese and Indian food that makes-up Malaysia, we can get to taste good quality food from other parts from Asia like Vietnamese, Iranian, Thai or Lebanese cuisine? Sherlyn of O’Food O’Life, is pleased to share her top pick of Asian restaurants in Malaysia.
1. Kafe Vietnam @ Bandar Puteri Puchong
Kafe Vietnam is operated by Justin, a Malaysian and his Vietnamese wife. Begin with the salad; they are really good to be eaten with the homemade sauce too. I also liked Bun Bo Hue (noodle) where they use the Kangkung stem. The soup base broth of beef and pork bone gives a sweet and spicy taste. It includes pork knuckle, which is being deboned, compressed and boiled, beef tenderloin and homemade ham. Not to be missed is their Black Pepper Basa Fish. Slowly simmered, tasted creamy in texture and slight chewiness out of freshness. Spring roll with deep fried Gurame - deboned fish was fried to perfection and eating it with basil, starfruit and banana made this an interesting try. Hot drip coffee? Of course a must! If you prefer the cold version, the coffee is first dripped and only upon cool, ice is added to preserve its pure coffee taste.2. Shisha Lounge @ Solaris Mont Kiara
Iranian kebab? A great bonus! A frequent visitor to this Asian restaurant, what I usually have is their Gheymeh stew which comes with option of eggplant or fries. This is considered ‘the potato of Iran’. It is slow stewed and went perfectly with rice. Their saffron rice was absolutely delicious, fluffy rice grains separated distinctively. Prior to cooking, they used some salt to soak it, and when served hot, butter helps to alleviate the aromatic taste of the rice. Then, we had the Barg Kebab which was beef cut to stripes and marinated in onion and mix herbs. It was so flavorful, taste was even more enhanced and the meat was so tender. They have 2 versions of chicken kebab - Chicken Kebab in Bone and Joojeh Kebab. Both taste insanely good! They are both so wonderfully flavorful and the marination worked so well as I totally can taste full flavor on every part of the meat.3. Restoran Chang Rai Thai Food @ Taman Seraya, Cheras
An extremely authentic Thai food discovered in Taman Seraya, Cheras. We ordered Red Tom Yum soup despite it looking oily, but one sip to the soup, we smiled. The overall taste of spiciness was well balanced by the mild sourness plus the quantity of seafood found is real good! The fish cake tasted superb. Love the fragrant that came from the spices used within. The Paku vege was fresh and I love the slight crunchiness when biting on it. It is not too leafy yet just enough to fulfil our need for some greens. Stir fried with sambal and onion, this vege is real good. The tilapia fish was fantastic. It was absolutely fresh and the lime juice used together with cuts of chilli and garlic made it so appetizing! Credit goes to the traditional looking fish shape platter that used charcoal to preserve our piping hot fish throughout the meal. Visit to Al-Amar gave me a distinct feeling of being in Lebanon as it is elegant and classy. We started with lentil soup made of grinded lentils, potatoes and onions, served with grilled Lebanese bread and lemon wedges. Loved this tasty grainy like soup. We ordered the Tabbouleh, a traditional must have made of fresh parsley, tomatoes, onions and bulgur wheat, topped with lemon, olive oil and spices. For selection of small dish, we chose the Hommos Bel Lahme. I loved the creamy mashed chick peas surrounding the sautéed beef. For main, I chose the Mixed Shawarna Platter that combined beef and chicken with salad, fries, plus tartar and garlic sauce. Generous portion of shredded grilled chicken and meat, both meat were so tender and the tastiness of the meat suggest that they were marinated long too!
