Let’s admit something  we all underestimate the power of porridge sometimes, often thinking the best of the flavour is really only from our moms’ cooking. Our advice? Drive down to Kuala Lumpur now  these 9 porridge shops will show you what a truly flavourful bowl of porridge is like.


Formerly known for their porridge, they have since become a Teochew restaurant. Their legacy of having served the best of Teochew cuisine for 30 years hasn’t hindered the reputation of their porridge in the slightest. Here, you can savour your porridge with braised ingredients  including braised duck meat, egg and pig intestines! 


Hon Kee is one of the oldest eateries in Kuala Lumpur. Their signature is their raw fish porridge, where a yummy bowl of porridge is garnished with neatly sliced raw fish meat. Another specialty they offer is frog leg porridge. Drizzle some soy sauce and mix your porridge with some minced ginger and onions for a richer taste.


You have no idea how jealous we are of folks living in Puchong, they get easy access to fresh seafood porridge at this shop! The porridge is cooked Teochew style and it’s customizable in the sense that patrons are able to alter the porridge to their liking upon order and choose to have it with fish, crab meat, shrimp or squid. Either way, the results are usually rich and flavourful. 


Pan Heong Restaurant is here to fulfill the dreams of raw meat lovers! They show that it’s not possible to go wrong with a bowl of raw fish porridge, which is actually their signature. Fresh raw fish meat and century eggs are the perfect ingredients to pair with porridge  in fact, many patrons make themselves slave to this irresistible combination! Will you be the next one?




Pairing ingredients with porridge is important  and we’re telling you to not miss the opportunity to pair pork with porridge. At Porridge (located in Pudu), they serve porridge with fried pig’s intestines, pig’s tongue and pig’s liver amongst others. Not a fan of pork? No worries, they also serve seafood and egg porridge!


Jalan Ipoh is home to many good stalls, but this stall in particular is a must-try. Patrons flock to them for their porridge, which comes with one of three types of meat  pork, chicken or fish. Moreover, their porridge is actually seasoned! In fact, it’s seasoned just right, without you needing to add any condiments to enhance the flavour.


Geylong Lor 9 is known for their usage of fresh chicken meat for their porridges. Freshness is a guarantee here. Many customers praise their frog leg porridge  thick porridge broth which is then seasoned by the gravy the frog legs are cooked in (served in a separate plate) that produces a special flavour. It's our highest recommendation in this humble shop.


Kwan Kee Porridge & Chicken only starts operating at 4pm, but don’t underestimate their ability to do business  you’d be surprised to know how many people flock to them. What’s a better way to consume your porridge than pairing it with a plate of seasoned steamed chicken? The most unique thing about their porridge is that it’s cooked with chicken broth  worth a shot for the taste!


Who else can’t get enough of claypot-cooked porridge? We know we can’t! As their name suggests, the porridge here is cooked claypot-styled. Their most popular order is the frog porridge, which we recommend  not only for the generous portion but also the almost silky texture of the porridge. Do note that their business only commences from 6pm onwards.
