Cyberjaya was one of the two townships set up in the mid 1990s as part of the government’s Multimedia Super Corridor plan. The other one was Putrajaya, which was set to be the administrative capital of Malaysia. The idea was that Cyberjaya would be a place where IT companies congregated, and also the site of several IT based Universities. Today Cyberjaya is home to a vibrant and multinational group of students as well as IT related professionals. In such a technologically advanced place, you’ll also find some of the trendiest and most modern cafes! (Some of the establishments below are non halal.)

1. Tokio Café

If you’re looking for a place that serves great Japanese fusion food, you’ve come to the right place. Tokio Café not only offers modern interpretations of traditional Japanese favourites like curry rice and ‘don’, it also offers full fledged western dishes. The restaurant is divided into two parts, the air conditioned indoor glass area and outdoor tropical dining area. Try their affordable cheese baked rice and Japanese meal sets which are available all day long, and in generous portions too.

2. It’s A Grind

Offering fuss free coffee, tea and other beverages, this café sits in an area that is very close to office buildings, thereby making it a convenient coffee stop on your way to work. They offer an impressive selection of sandwiches to go with your drinks, as well as some pastries and pies. If you’re stopping by on a hot day, go for their fruit smoothies, which include an avocado smoothie to die for!

3. Hot Jam Café

One of the latest eateries to open at D’Pulze Mall, Cyberjaya is Hot Jam Café. Apart from their wide selection of coffee, tea , mock tails, coolers and more, they specialize in offering good old Malay food like nasi goring Thai, seafood tomyam and Special Mee Siam, among others. You also get plenty of western dishes like pasta and grilled chicken. There’s a stage in the middle of the café, and if you’re lucky you may catch a performance.

4. Big Bob Burger

Although the highlight here is their selection of succulent chicken and beef based burgers, you’ll also find a selection of pizza, pasta, waffles, sandwiches and butter rice sets. If you’re not in the mood or can’t finish an entire burger, you can order their hand rolled meatballs that come served in cute little buns, drenched in bolognaise sauce.

5. Monjo Coffee

Enjoy your coffee, tea or chocolate in a completely minimalistic environment at Monjo coffee. They also have budget lunch sets daily and they day we were there, it was a delicious and juicy grilled chicken thigh served with your choice of salad, spicy rice, Mediterranean rice or pasta. If you’re coming here at tea time, treat yourself to some of their fluffy baked pastries or cakes.

6. Chubbies Café

Those living and working near Shaftsbury Square Cyberjaya are spoilt for choice, as Chubbies Café is yet another delicious eatery to have lunch at. Most of their dishes are affordably priced between RM12 to Rm18, and the portions of each dish are rather large and filling. There are several corners that are great for work or lunch meetings with a steady WiFi connection too. The staffs are friendly and willing to help, making this a truly warm and cozy café.

7. Karya Bhara

If you’re into indie culture, this is one spot you absolutely cannot miss. The ambience itself is very welcoming and earthy, yet colourful. They’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, closing only at 3am daily. We were impressed with the decoration and the little performance corner. If you would like to know when any indie performances are scheduled, you can always ask the friendly staff. There is a mezzanine upper floor where you can also hang out and the menu is a mix of local Malay cuisines and western dishes like lamb chops and burgers.

8. Zawara Coffee

Targeted at busy working executives who need their coffee fix in a rush, Zawara Coffee actually offers so much more than that. For starters it’s a great place to work, with its well lit and spacious design. There are also full-on lunches or dinner dishes like the Singaporean red lamb shank, crab meat carbonara spaghetti and cheese melt burger. We recommend you try Kacang Pool, a specialty of Johor and very hard to find in the Klang Valley.
