2017-06-02
With a multi-cultural nation such as Malaysia come different interpretations of our beloved national dish. Nasi lemak is commonly served with traditional ingredients, such as sambal, anchovies, peanuts and boiled egg.

In the case of Chinese Malaysians, nasi lemak is often served with ingredients that speak volumes of familiarity to their cuisine  pork can certainly be found in their interpretation. With that in mind, you should totally check out these 9 places offering Chinese non-halal nasi lemak in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya!

1. Brilliant Nasi Lemak House
Brilliant Nasi Lemak House has stepped into the nasi lemak scene with a hot serving of nasi lemak with rendang pork. Their sambal comes in three different types  the ordinary onion sambal Malaysians are used to, prawn sambal and squid sambal. Mind you, the squid is even stuffed with minced meat  if that’s not generous, we don’t know what is! Not to mention, the rice is extremely fragrant not just in scent but also flavour.

Which one would you choose?

Step in and let the smell of their signature fried chicken take you away on a romantic getaway! What’s better than pairing some delicious and succulent fried chicken with nasi lemak? It’s crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside, omitting a fragrant flavour. Their sambal is also worth dying for  slightly salty with tinges of sweetness which will really enhance your nasi lemak experience.

The stall is named after the fact that the owner is a dark-skinned Chinese man, who works hard every morning to deliver one of the best nasi lemak we have ever tasted! Their signature pork chop nasi lemak is what brings all the Malaysians to the yard. The pork chop is marinated with spices and fried to utter richness and perfection. Bite into it and say goodbye to that diet you planned.

Ann Nasi Lemak stands out with their unusual offering of pork skin curry nasi lemak. It’s also their signature and it’s easy to see why most patrons opt to get this  the meat is rich in santan flavours and the skin is cooked to tenderness, making it a good pair with the aromatic coconut rice. Their sambal is spicier than the sambal Malaysians are usually used to, so if you can take a bit of extra heat, we also highly recommend having it.

You know they mean business when they’ve been around for over 30 years. Their operating hours is actually from 8:30pm to 2am but that has never stopped the night owls from taking up all the seats to sink their teeth into a delicious plate of nasi lemak, particularly with their signature pork sasuage! They can be quite pricey for the budget-conscious though, so do take note.
