A Day Daddy Will Never Forget
2013-06-04
All fathers take great pride in what their wife and kids do for them. They love being surrounded by their family, sharing things together. So why not throw a family party and make this Father’s Day an unforgettable one! It’s not tough; you just need to plan ahead.

Location and setting Will it be a breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner? Casual sit-down meal, potluck, picnic, or barbecue gathering? Say it’ll be an outdoor buffet. Would you — and your dad — prefer to have it in a park or at home? If it’s the latter, will it provide enough space? Would it be nicer to have decoration around? Crowd The crowd’s size largely determines how manageable the party will be. Say, for this buffet, a small to medium crowd is ideal. The next question would be: who to invite? Immediate family only? Or extended family and close friends as well? If there are kids, engage them in some activity throughout the party, like a makeshift “playground” with some children-friendly toys. Otherwise, be prepared for possible distractions (like incessant bawling and whimpering). And remember, after sending out invitations, allow ample time, at least a week, for the people to respond. Menu Include Dad’s favorite dishes, and then draw a theme based on the dishes’ similarities. What will the type of cuisine be — Nyonya? French? Pan-Asian? Also consider if there will be vegetarians and kids; if yes, prepare the kinds of food that they’re more inclined to eat. At the end of the day, whatever you choose to cook, be sure you can pull them off. This isn’t a time to try out new stunts to impress your guests! Execution Finish up whatever you can ahead. Shop for the ingredients and, if necessary, decorative items. Cook up dishes that can be done ahead. That will make life easier. Need help? Don’t be shy to ask! This is a good time for your family to bond through working toward one same goal. Lastly, everything you do should come with sincerity and tender, loving care. Make Dad star of the show. And, of course, make sure that you the host gets to enjoy the party, too.
