When Muslims in Malaysian break the fast after sunset, it is called “berbuka puasa”. During this holy month, many restaurants in Malaysia will offer special promotions or buffets too! Also, many Muslims love to visit Ramadhan Bazaars on the streets to enjoy a wide variety of dishes offered at affordable prices.

One of the most fun and exciting things to do during the month of Ramadhan is to visit Ramadhan Bazaars to hunt for a wide range of delicacies. Last week, we paid a visit to a very happening Ramadhan Bazaar at Pasar Tani Asia City in Kota Kinabalu. The market was a street with two rows of stalls offering a wide range of Malaysian’s favourite snacks and dishes.

When we arrived in the evening, the whole market was very crowed and packed. Kota Kinabalu’s unique ethnic and cultural diversity was reflected in the bazaar, as the bazaar had attracted not only the Malays, but also Chinese, Indians, and tourists from foreign countries! Indeed, Ramadhan Bazaar had become one of Malaysia’s most exciting tourist attractions during the month of Ramadhan.

We were spoiled for choice as a wide variety of Malay, Indonesian, Arabic, and Western delicacies were available here, including nasi campur, ikan bakar, ayam goreng kampung, Malay kuih, satay, ayam penyet, fried snacks, shawarma, grilled chicken wings, burgers, lamb chops and many more. Many of the dishes were freshly prepared and grilled on the spot, making a stroll at the market a truly delicious journey!

Most of the dishes and drinks in the market were packed in lunch boxes or plastic bags, so that it was more convenient for customers to take away. Most people came here after work and bought foods for takeaway, so that they could break the fast with families at home.

Regardless of Muslims and non-Muslims, Ramadhan Bazaars are always great places to satisfy our palates with mouth-watering dishes!
