continue reading

Nestled in a corner amongst the busy streets of Kampung Baru, Kak Mah Tom Yam never fails to satisfy. A Malay style tom yam joint (similar to Vicchuda) is definitely the place to go for quick lunches as dishes are whipped up in no time. Tom Yam Campur (prawns, squid, oyster mushrooms, chicken) is tasty as the level of spiciness and sourness is without a doubt balanced. Opt for extra spicy if you enjoy something with more of a kick. Although the telur dadar (omelette) is a simple dish, Kak Mah does it right without it being too oily. Kailan ikan masin lacks ikan masin but stems were crunchy and fresh. The star dish of my lunch was udang tepung goreng. IT WAS DELICIOUS! Whole prawns dipped in batter and covered with breadcrumbs were deep fried till crisp golden in colour and served with sweet Thai chili sauce. Deep fried chicken wings were crunchy and flavourful as well. I reckon it would go well with a steaming plate of nasi lemak! Dishes were priced reasonably except the chicken wings which were RM3 per wing and a bowl of rice was RM1.50! Be prepared to be stuck in traffic for this meal! I heard this place is very popular during dinner time and famed for its bubur berlauk. continue reading
