My best friend came back from US for her semester break and we decided to catch up over some good food at a lovely cafe. After a short debate, we decided to have lunch at Upstairs Cafe! I’ve heard from some of my friends that the food there was good so I decided to give it a try!We ordered their daily special which was only RM9.90 only!!! The 3 of us had chicken arrabiata pasta! The pasta was really good, the seasoning was just right and the flavours were on point! Not to mention the price, the dish was considered cheap for such a lovely cafe! The portion was just right as well. I would definitely recommend this place for friends to gather and have some good and affordable food. continue reading

This cafe is located at SS12, and it is really upstairs. Restaurant Bawang Merah is the downstairs shop. It is self-service and their menu is written on a blackboard. I heard from my friends that they change their menu everyday as they have limited choices per day. So expect for something new daily. =) They have breakfast and lunch/dinner menu. I have yet to try their breakfast menu but I think their dinner menu is awesome. Cake is the best! continue reading

Bacon & Mushroom Risotto RM10.90Bacon & Mushroom Risotto, topped with a sunny side up and a side of green. When I skimped through the menu, this dish caught my attention immediately because of its price. I mean, where else could you find a risotto at only RM10.90?! The price of a risotto at a typical Italian Restaurant is normally priced around RM30+!Never judge a book by its cover, never judge a food by its price. The Risotto, was IMPRESSIVE. The texture was smooth and creamy, really well-done. Each bite was really flavourful. The creamy saucy risotto tempted my taste bud for MORE AND MORE! The beef bacon and mushroom taste infused with the rice, further enhanced the taste of the dish. The greens serves as a perfect respite from the creamy risotto. It mellows the jelak-ness of the whole dish, complementing the risotto perfectly.Upstairs Cafe is just located upstairs of Kafe Bawang Merah, a Malay cafe which is also quite famous among Subang Folks. Heard that the owner of Bawang Merah and Upstairs are actually Father and Son btw!It was a great dining experience. And a really good place to chill and hang out. =) Will be back soon to try out their full range of breakfast menu! continue reading

Chocolate Mint Brownie.....orgasm to mint and chocolate lovers. The mint was so strong that we could smell it when they served us. The whole block of brownie tasted really rich and minty. Its like biting on a Snicker's bar but better. A definite must try for mint and chocolate lovers. However, the portion is rather small, its about a finger's length. RM3.5 p/slice, rating 8/10. continue reading

Upstairs cafe is located at SS12, Subang Jaya. If you do not know where is that, it is in the row of shops opposite Sime Darby Medical Centre which used to be called as Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC). It is located above a restaurant selling malay food called Bawang Merah. The place is pretty small, and can't fit much people but the place is really cozy and a really nice place to hang out and have a cup of coffee or tea with a piece of cake. According to my friend, she said the cafe doesn't open early. It opens around 3ish in the afternoon till night. This is their Red Velvet Cupcake, which I am not sure how much does it cost. Don't let the colour of the cake scare you, it really taste very yummy. It is actually a normal cupcake that is red in coloured topped with some cream cheese. The cake was so fluffy and moist and went really well with the cream cheese I actually went to Upstairs Cafe to try out this brownie because my friend who recommended me to go there said their brownie was something to die for. They will heat up the brownie and then topped it with some whip cream and chocolate sauce before serving. Very very sinful but also so yummy. But it gets a little 'jelak' after eating a lot of it. I recommend to share it with a friend! This is their Cappuccino . I am really not a big fan of coffee, I am more of a tea person. Honestly, I can't tell if a cup of coffee is good or not but according to Wei Hua it isn't so good. She has tasted better Cappuccino before like the one at Whisk's, Empire. But it goes quite well with the brownie because the brownie is sweet and the cappuccino without adding sugar is bitter. Overall, I am really satisfied with their cakes but for their drinks, it can be improve. As for the pricing, it's quite affordable and a little cheaper compared to many cafes out there and I really like the ambience of the cafe continue reading
