This was my first visit to the Ming's Room which was highly recommended by my mother. Apparently she's had business meeting's there before and loved the food, so she brought my sister & I there for brunch that weekend. No surprise that it was filled with lots of people since it was the weekend. My favourite was the char siew pao. The bun was super soft and fluffy plus nicely hot from being steamed for the right amount of time. Then the inside was super good as the pork was nice & juicy plus the sauce tasted just right. I loved it so much that we had to order another basket cause I wanted more. And another favourite of that day was these pork ribs. Although it wasn't as good as the ones I could get at Jin Xuan, these were infinitely better than any we can get elsewhere. The meat was succulent and tender plus the sauce was nicely flavoured. I just wish it had more garlic & black beans to give it an extra ooomph. Then we also got the steamed pork siu mai which was also really good. It was bigger in size than other regular places which is understandable considering that the prices here was also slightly higher. Though completely worth it!We should have ordered more but we did not want to be overly greedy like always. Now I can't wait to be back just for the pao.  continue reading

It's dim sum time again! Always looking forward to it as it has been a family ritual for years on public holiday. We are usually regular patrons of Grand Imperial Restaurant but this time, we decided to try the highly spoken of dim sum restaurant, the Ming Room which is located in the very same building Bangsar Shopping Complex on the very same floor. One at the newer building and Ming is tucked in the other corner of the older block. Both easily accessible via escalator. It was 9.30 AM but they are not opened yet. Some patrons are seen standing outside the restaurant waiting for them to open. At 10 AM sharp, we walked in and we were informed that it is difficult for us to get a table unless there were reservation made. We were furious as we were there half an hour before it actually opens.Thankfully they manage to find a table for us. Compared to Grand Imperial, they are rather small and too many partitions. Perhaps for wedding dinners, this might not be an ideal place after all.So after hearing tons of good reviews about this place, we came with really high hopes and expectations but we were dissapointed. The minced meat in the dumplings were fresh, it was rather soggy and damp. The other dim sums like the fried Chee Cheong fun wasn't great either. Egg tarts was average but nothing great to shout about.Compared to their branches under the same group, we think that Maju Palace fare better in terms of good quality and taste wise even though it's a halal restaurant. Spacious as well. continue reading

Glutinous RiceThe rice was sticky just like other glutinous rice. I used to have this a lot when I was younger. But, i thought this was more special because it was extra fragrant. The chicken chunks in this was quite a lot as well. However, it was not salty enough and i thought it was a little bland. continue reading

The soup dish that we ordered is the century egg with chinese siew bak choy. The soup looks cloudy and off white. We love the soup very much because it was very tasty. There were lots of fresh anchovies that added flavors to this soup. The century eggs were very nice with transparent skin. The chinese siew bak choy was soft and tender being boiled in the soup. This is highly recommended. continue reading
