Kechara Oasis Fine Dining
Just OK 2013-02-24

Kechara Oasis has few other branch but this branch in Viva Mall is very spacious. I love the set up here with very calm and peace environment.

Kechara Oasis Grand Entrance.

The interior is very grand and I supposed this is how Fine Dining Vegetarian restaurant look like. The first feeling entering the restaurant gives a little chill as the air conditioner was really cold and filled with Buddhist Goddess Statues. This is my personal feel, to other it may not affect much as I don’t quite like the mantra or Buddhist song in temple. It’s just me! We were being escorted to the VIP dining room. Entering this room feel much better. Some of Openricer has arrived and were chatting. The room on the other hand was filled with very grand furniture such as Suede Leather chair, huge dining table and beautiful lighting.

Huge Dining table at Kechara Oasis.

Seriously I do not know where to begin with as the eating experience here wasn’t bad nor good. That night we were serve with only 2 main meal which is steamboat and fried rice.

To begin with, I must admit the idea of boiling the soup inside a Winter Melon was really creative.

The soup taste almost close to Bah Kut Teh soup but minus the meat sweetness. The soup flavour is good but there is no elements of winter melon in the soup. The winter melon serve more like a decoration instead of adding flavour into the soup. Creativity alone does not impress me much if the taste was not there!

Winter Melon Pot filled with ingredients.

My other concern are this Winter Melon soup alone cost a bomb!! RM 69.90 for this small pot that can only be filled with 3 plates of ingredient before it is full. While the other ingredient are by ala carte and the portion are quite small considering it’s meatless I think for a family of 4 you may need at least 10 plates to fill your tummy.

The ingredient including soy product like Tofu and Beancurd Skin, Cheesy Ball and Vegetarian Fish Ball, Vegetables, Mushroom as well as Vegetarian Seafood Product. The ingredient wasn’t really memorable to me perhaps I’m more meat eater!! LOL.

Winter Melon Steamboat with ala-carte ingredients.

A plate of Greenish Fried Rice arrived on the table. It got me thinking for a while!! What is this dish made off??? It’s called Xiang Chun Fried Rice, fried with Tuna Leaves which gives a really good herb aroma!!

Xiang Chun Fried Rice.

Each grain of rice is well separated and filled with the strong aroma of the Tuna Leave as well as the strong wok hei!! Apart from that, the tiny cutlet of long bean gives this really crunchy texture!!! Uniquely delicious!! This is one good plate of fried rice.

A spoonful of Xiang Chun Fried Rice.

Overall, I would think it will be better to try out their other fried dishes instead of the steamboat. I briefly run through Google and read a few good review on their fried dishes. Special Thanks to Open Rice for the invitation.

Food : 4/10 for steamboat 7/10 for fried rice
Price : 4/10 (It’s rather pricy for me maybe I just doesn’t know how to appreciate Vegetarian Culinary)
Facility : 5/10 (Located inside Viva Mall, not much amenities unless you want to look for furniture)
Ambient Environment : 4/10 (Too cold)
Service : 7/10

Tsem Rinpoche Wintermelon
Smile 2013-02-13 (Related Review)

I personally opine the soup a very heavy-loaded one with herbal flavor which I find it really awesome if cooked much longer. For the soup would be slowly simmered and all the essence would be thoroughly absorbed into the assorted steamboat ingredients such as soy products, crabstick filaments, cheeseballs, mushrooms and not forgetting vegetables of course.

The varieties of the side ingredients are all very fresh and the vegetarian meatballs are very chewy! The cheeseballs intrigues me the most for I didn’t expect that I would bump into my favourite (Cheese), over here at vegan dining, hehe. The whitish filling is very gooey and cheesy, besides sensing some wasabi flavor in it. Quite a fresh combination I guess, hehe.

As you can see, this is indeed a whole plethora of goodies in one pot.

It’s definitely a night of cultural assimilation I suppose lol And what’s the best to wrap up with other than Pu Er tea? ^^

Fine Dining Vegetarian Cuisine against a Metropoli
Smile 2013-02-13 (Related Review)

Nestled humbly at Viva Home lies a new conceptualized vegetarian fine dining that goes by the name of Kechara Oasis. It bears some elements from Tibetan and I was lucky enough to have the restaurant owner, Jeffrey to walk me around the grandeur place later while sharing introducing his restaurant. And this, the kudos goes to Open Rice team for giving me such an up close opportunity. Each dining section has its own theme which makes it a perfect venue to cater for banquet occasions and could be customized as well. The interior décor are definitely unique whereby all the embellishments are brought over from Tibet itself, according to Jeffrey.

Such dedicated to work of the Open Rice crew smile

This eatery caters a varieties of fusions from Chinese, Tibetan, Nepali, Vietnamese and also Western influence. So it very much depends on the gastronomical creativity by its chefs. And in ushering the new year of Water Snake, Kechara Oasis would love to tickle its diners’ palate with its new signature dish, that is Winter Melon Steamboat. It’s also a much healthier way to kick start the new year on a lighter note, but equally a wholesome one!

It’s definitely one of its kind as far as steamboat is concerned. Where on earth (at least in KL city) do you see such a brand new idea of boiling your steamboat soup nourishingly in a melon? Moreover, the soup base is being stewed over 30 types of herbs that include American Ginseng, Red Dates, Wolfberries and many more. Needless to say, the aroma that is wafting through the air is really rich and enough to arouse your curiosity of the actual flavor lol

Fragrant Xiang Chun Fried Rice
Smile 2013-02-12

Fragrant Xiang Chun Fried Rice

This Xiang Chun Fried Rice is also very much recommended especially to those who enjoyed meals with great ‘wok hei’. It is indeed a very special creation of fried rice where Tuna leaves are being used to enrich this menu alongside with cut long beans, julienned cabbages, soya cubes and also some tosses of seaweed.

   Nicely garnished with lettuce

Each grain is thoroughly engulfed with nice aroma

The Tuna leaves particularly bewildered me for I have never heard of this herb before this. But am glad to have ‘befriended’ it now for this Jamaican plant is said to be an effective detox and makes a wonderful herb in managing weight loss. When all of these are combined and woofed up in a single wok, the dish gives out a very fragrant subtle aroma which has a close resemblance to a seaweed taste. Frankly speaking, I really enjoyed this dish and savored it very much from the bottom of my heart.

Xiang Chun Fried Rice
Smile 2013-02-08 (Related Review)

Up next after enjoying the wintermelon hotpot, the following dish presented to us was Xiang Chun Fried Rice. Using tuna leaves as the star ingredients coupled with others such as diced soy product, long beans then served with chopped lettuce beside it. I love the natural aroma of this dish despite of thinking the tuna leaves contributing a taste that we are not familiar with. The rice was well separated and each grain of rice was fluffy. A little wok hei and adequate seasonings made the whole dish taste even better.

Wintermelon Hotpot
Smile 2013-02-08

Kechara Oasis has introduced this brand new vegetarian dish to celebrate the coming Chinese New Year, and I was glad to be invited to the latest MakanVenture by OpenRice to enjoy the wintermelon hotpot experience. Just by looking at the uniqueness of the wintermelon used as the pot, I can’t wait to have a taste with other OpenRicers as well.

Excellent ambience suitable for CNY friends and family gatherings

The wintermelon (Tsem Rinpoche) with beautifully carved edges was placed inside a metal pot filled with just about 20% low level of water, heated using an electrical cooker.

Up to 30 types of herbs are used to create this flavourful broth. Important ingredients of the soup include Red Dates, America Ginseng, and Wolfberry. At first it smells like curry when it was boiling, which had us feeling confused for a while. The verdict of the soup- rich with herbs that taste very similar to bak kut teh, the superior and pleasant taste had us continuously sipping the awesome broth. I felt very healthy and nourished! lol

Various ingredients are available ala-carte. What we had that night was filament crabsticks, 'sausages', mushrooms, cheese balls, vegetarian fish balls, broccoli, bok choy, sliced soy product and dried beancurd skin. The ingredients contributed more flavours to the broth, tasting even naturally sweeter that had us giving thumbs up.

The vegetarian fishballs had a nice QQ texture with smooth surface that is up to par with normal fishballs. The cheeseballs were the rather special item that night. Slight mustard taste was apparent inside the cheese sauce, which I think was quite alright for me. My friend, Cindy however finds it rather weird. Again, the firm texture of the ball was great.

Inner look of the cheese ball

Special chilli dipping sauce. A little spicy with appetizing fresh lemongrass inside. I love this a lot and easily polished 2 small plates of it.

The wintermelon hotpot is priced at RM68++, not including the ala carte ingredients. They are available for separate ordering.

It is glad to be here as I have been selected as one of the participants to enjoy free taste meal at this restaurant. Getting along with all the members here and dining togther were the great moment. They served us fried rice and Wintermelon Steamboat. The Wintermelon Steamboat is unique whereby we could not find it at somewhere else. We just put fishball, toufu and others into the Wintermelon, and ready to eat. However, fried rice are just normal.

Fried Mayo Mushroom
Smile 2012-07-31

   Fried Mayo Mushroom

This restaurant is a vegetarian restaurant that does fusion food based on Chinese, Tibetan, Nepali, Vietnamese and Western cuisines. They emphasise on food creativity and fine dining and prices are above average.

I tried their Fried Mayo Mushroom which is deep fried mushroom with mayonnaise and coated with sesame before serving. The mushroom must have been deep-fried first before dipping in mayonnaise and sesame because the sauce is still glistening. The mushroom tasted really crispy and flavours were strong as mushrooms have a heavy flavour. This mixed with their mayonnaise which tasted not as fattening were really appetizing. The sesame just completes the whole dish and it is a really good starter before you take in main dishes.

Kung Po Hedgehog Mushroom
Kechara Oasis is a very grand vegetarian restaurant which served dim sum and stir dishes. This dish is kung po mushroom topped with a smattering of cashew nuts. The ingredients use are mushrooms, green peppers and carrots stir fried in Kung Po sauce. This is very spicy but it taste very delicious, especially the sauce. Therefore, the sauce is enough for you to mix with the rice to eat.

Fried Mayo Mushroom
Kechara Oasis is a Chinese restaurant and served vegetarian food. The environment is very nice and grand. This dish is fried mushroom with mayonnaise. The mushroom is very crispy and crunchy. The mayonnaise is not the taste that we can buy in supermarket, this is home made mayonnaise by Kechara Oasis, it taste a bit different and not that sweet compare with the normal white colour mayonnaise. The portion is consider big ( i found that many vegetarian restaurant they serve the dish in very small portion).

Vegetables with mushrooms
Kechara Oasis (如意轩) served vegetarian food. It is Chinese style restaurant. The food served here is in well presentation. This dish is vegetables with mushroom. Stir the vegetables with different type of mushroom. This is a signature of vegetarian food. The portion is quite big. The mushroom use is very fresh. The vegetable taste good with the sauce which is a bit sticky and taste of the sweet come from those mushroom. I like vegetarian food because it is healthy.
