Si Chuan Dou Hua, the Parkroyal hotel's Sichuan-&-Cantonese restaurant, serves lunch & dinner everyday with several crowd-pleasers in store.Customers can order from a roughly 60-dish selection that looks promising on paper, featuring plenty of prawns in kataifi pastry wrap.Roast chicken. Patrons should probably request dark meat, since the breast & wings provided here border dangerously on dryness.More prawns, steamed this time.Fish of the evening, with hot bean sauce. Could have been fresher & less muddy-tasting.Ending with more prawns with cashews & chili. Each ends up being less than memorable though, whipped up with competence but little complexity or flair. continue reading

We kicked off the night with the piping hot Sichuan Hot and Sour Soup, which came in individual servings perfect to whet our appetite for more of the heavier dishes that night. I was apprehensive initially when this soup came out as I don\t quite fancy sour food. To my surprise, it wasn't too sourish, and really did prepared our taste buds for more to come. Up next we had the Fried Butter Prawns, which I really liked a lot. The prawns were big and juicy, peeled and fried with butter served with some vegetables on the side. The butter really brought out the flavour, coupled with the freshness of the prawns, I just had to have more. continue reading

Si Chuan Dou Hua brings together the four streams of gourmet, culture, tea and tradition, to present a multi-dimensional dining experience that is second to none.Another lovely meals which we loved is the Diced chicken with dried chili & cashewnut where the portion is not too big and the chicken meat is well stir fried giving a tender and light spiciness taste of it. The delights is amazlingly done with the creative blend of the crispy cashewnuts with it.Price: RM 30 continue reading

continue reading

Having hot and sour soup is a must whenever dining in a Sze Chuan themed restaurant. I have high expectations to the dish as it represents a signature dish to the restaurant. It came with mushrooms, bamboo shoots, egg, crab and spring onions in thick gravy- where is the tofu? The thickness of the soup was just right as too starchy ones will affect the appetite. I thought the soup lacked the spiciness it should have from the hua jiao (sichuan peppercorn) and chilli oil. Ingredients could have been more to add texture to the soup. It was quite well seasoned, but overall was slightly below average. If you like hot and sour soup that tastes not too spicy, this is for you continue reading
