It has long queue most of the time so decided to give it a try. My friends and I tried both the cendol and the assam laksa. Both of them were just so-so - nothing to shout about. We had tried better & much better cendol and assam laksa elsewhere.... continue reading

Saw  this penang road famous teochew chendul shop. I stopped by and have a good look, and curry mee and asam laksa are on the menu board. Well, I can't really get the aroma of the asam laksa but I can easily catch the curry mee scent overpowering the shop.  What's more?  I went to the counter to order a bowl of curry mee (it is vermicelli mixes with noodle) and their original chendul. The curry mee was jus nice to me with handful of curry flavour and not spicy at all (a bit  disappointed as I wanted a little spiciness). Nevertheless,  the curry mee still better than the chendul which I think I can have better chendul at other places such as at ss22... and the chendul is rather too heavy with coconut milk.  The red beans were disastrous as I taste not fresh and smell like it had been kept in a fridge for more than a week. It does smells like that to me.. because I had kept red bean dessert too long in the fridges that it smells like rotten to me. It might not my day to get such a bowl of chendul.. but I shouldn't be served to me at the first place because they supposed to have keep a good reputation for quality chendul... Curry mee is good. ..jus that those served cockles were too small.  continue reading

Cendol is one of my favourite local desserts, so given a chance to try something that's "famous" or well-known, I can't help but give it a go. Tables here were full at all times, and I was standing a good while before I managed to get a table, even for just myself.Prices aren't great, but well, there's a premium to be paid for overly famous things.I had the durian cendol. The durian was really flavourful and the cendol bits were firm and not too soft. Ice was fine enough but could be finer. Enough of gula melaka for a good balance of sweetness. So, overhyped or glorious? I'd say glorious. continue reading

to order at this place, it is self serviceyou go to the cashier, place your order and you will receive a numberthe server will later send the food to your tablethe rojak buah is the easiest to make because it is pre-madebut it took the longest to arrive to my tablethe black sauce was pungent with udang belacan and it was also quite spicyi think the fruits were very roughly chopped which made it quite hard to eat continue reading

Although famous or it's cendol, I wanted to try their rojak. I ordered for take away without timun and sengkuang and surprisingly, they adhered to my request. The fruits and sauce were both packed separately into 2 dainty looking containers. It manage to preserve the freshness of the fruits. He rojak mix was great! I love the sweet and spicy rojak sauce and the fruits were all chunky and fresh too. I wouldn't hesitate to have it again next time! continue reading
