Handmade Pan Mee Soup
Review (1)
I have been hearing the fuss about this Kung Fun Pan Mee situated in Taman Sri Sentosa on how good this traditional dish is since forever from my buddy. One fine weekend morning, we then decided to spend the time and drive all the way to this place to try it out.I found the antique-looking banner very amusing. The shop looks very aged, seems like it has been here for a long time. This kinda gives a different feel to the environment, plus the area and the residents have been there for a very long time. You would notice some old people walking around leisurely or just chatting away at the nearby tables. Seriously quite an environment. Pan Mee Soup, RM5.50(S) RM6.50(L)I love the smooth texture of the pinched noodle. It was also kinda chewy which added a different sensation while I was eating it. The soup was slightly sweet, just how Pan Mee soup should be! The soup itself was really welcoming even without the ingredients, you could taste the long hours of boiling with its natural sweetness and flavourful aroma. Topped with the usual fried-to-crisp ikan bilis, stir-fried mushroom, minced meat and plenty of fresh vegetables, the pan mee instantly became a simple, traditional and totally memorable delicacy. One thing I realised about the Pinched noodle here is that their noodle is longer than usual. Probably this is why it’s called “Kung Fu Pan Mee”. It probably requires some skills to actually pinch these delicate flours into such elongated shape. You don’t get such long ones in other Pan Mee outlets, reallyPan Mee Kicap/Dried Pan Mee RM5.50(S) RM6.50(L)Yes! They have the dried version too! This is rather common scenario here in Malaysia, everything that comes with soup must have a dry version too! And they are usually really simple by mixing soy sauces and then top it off with the same ingredients used for the soup version. Though, in the dry version of Kung Fu Pan Mee, I found that that stir-fried mushroom was better than the soup one, mixing with the pinched noodle, it definitely emitted a different aroma as you could taste the mushroom and its flavour. And of course, the minced meat, ikan bilis and fresh veges made the dish even better!Honestly, I prefer the dry version better.Look at how long the pinched noodle was!Pandan Chicken RM10Apart from Pan Mee, they do sell other side items such as fish balls, fried fish cakes… We settled with the Pandan Chicken. At RM10 for 3 pieces only, this sounded really pricey. I didn’t regret spending the money though. When the dish was served, I could smell the strong fragrant emitting from them that instantly triggered my senses and made me drool. The color itself was appetizing, and the texture of the meat, crispy on the outside; soft on the inside…. These well-marinated chickens were fried to perfection. I enjoyed crunching through the fragrant outer layer just to savour the soft meat within.Whatever secret seasoning they were using for this dish, it was good. One of the best Pandan Chicken I have had. mmHmmmm!Look at the meat inside, the seasoning went through! They were so full so flavours! What an awesome food we have! The next time I am visiting, I am definitely ordering the Dry Pan Mee and this Pandan Chicken is not to be missed!Point to note, this place is a little bit difficult to find and be very careful while using Google Maps as there are several Kung Fu Pan Mee in the listing. continue reading
