I am very fortunate to be working near the best Penang food ever. In fact, it is a little unnationalistic of Penang state for me to declare that the curry mee here tastes better than the oily santan version in Penang. In fact, the assam laksa and curry mee at the stall here, are the best I have ever eaten in Selangor. I say this from the bottom of my heart. I only discovered the tastiness of the curry mee after I brought my Polish friend here to look for laksa and accidentally discovered the curry mee sold at the same stall. Every time I order laksa or curry mee, it would take quite a long time though it is very easy to prepare these items. The curry is so thick. There were a lot of ingredients such as tau hu pok, cockles, chicken slices, long beans and a lot of bean sprouts. Even I who do not usually like shredded white chicken actually finished each morsel of chicken due to the delicious thick curry. I love anything that has a lot of ingredients as I am not much of a carbs person. The best part about the curry mee is that one cannot see the layer of oil like the Penang styled ones or the normal ones you eat at any stall or curry laksa shops. The slice of lime gives the slight sour taste to balance the spiciness.  continue reading

Restaurant O&S is always packed with customers, I guess it's because you can find pretty much everything there and most of the stalls are pretty good. When my father was visiting KL, we went over to check out the food. I have heard that the beef noodles are quite good (and probably underrated) so we ordered 2 types, the dry noodles and the noodles in soup. The beef soup was indeed very aromatic, sweet and has a nice depth of flavour to it (no doubt it contains some MSG though) and I prefer this dry tossed noodles because we get the best of both world. Although it means that the salt level is on the higher side. Therefore, if you don't want your blood pressure to hike up, the soup version is a better choice. Top with few slices of brisket and few balls, the noodles stayed firm until the very end. The broth is of course the same as the dry version, but a little more diluted with the noodles. The wanton mee pales in comparison to the beef noodles though, I didn't think much of it and the wantons had very little filling which was disappointing. The char siew was also quite tasteless. I heard that the Penang style Chee Cheong Fun is good, maybe I will try that one day. If I can be bothered going out of my way that is. continue reading

Prawn mee. I am quite reluctant to go to O&S as it is extremely difficult to get seats. That day, I went there early with my family and got a table to dine. The prawn mee was cooked with beansprouts, prawns, chicken slices and deep fried onions. The soup was clear and it was quite spicy. The prawn taste was not too strong though. This was an above average prawn mee and not too bad. continue reading

continue reading
