Last month on a Saturday, wifey and I wanted to have some BBQ pork rice, hence we decided to head over to Glenmarie Industrial Park to Meng Kee for a sumptous lunch. However, upon arriving, we were dismayed to see the long line queuing for their delicious BBQ pork and roast chicken. We didn't really want to wait, as we had plans after lunch. Then I saw something that baffled me. A shop named Meng Kee Ramen. I didn't know Meng Kee had ventured into another cuisine. Nevertheless, we decided to give it a try. We walked in, not that many customers.

Their tables were round, and the chairs were designed in such as way that they sort of hug the table. The chairs only had three legs, which I gingerly sat upon, just in case I embarassed myself by falling. I ordered a Shoyu Ramen from their limited menu, and waited a while before the dish came. The picture of the dish in the menu looked like they offered the same type of char siew that Meng Kee Char Siew offered, so I was expecting the visit wasn't a total loss.

The bowl of noodle came piping hot, and it was huge! The noodles were done OK, a bit too soft for my liking. I was slightly disappointed when I saw the char siew, but when I bit into it, it wasn't that bad actually. Not the same type of char siew in Meng Kee Char Siew, different, but quite acceptable. Two halves of an egg, hard-boiled. Not the soft yolk type of eggs, so not impressive there. There were lots of sliced black fungus, which I like very much. A slice of seaweed and a piece of naruto completes the ensemble. The soup is quite flavourful, made spicy by the dollop of chilli oil put on top before serving. Priced at RM6.80 per bowl, it is a decent price to pay, but nothing to shout about.
