10 Stalls that Stand Out in the Shah Alam Stadium Ramadhan Bazaar
2015-06-26
The Ramadhan Bazaar situated at the car park of Shah Alam’s Stadium is one of the biggest and most popular ones. Three full rows of stalls selling all sorts of delicious goodies awaits beyond. Do expect popular Malay dishes such as Nasi Ambang, Nasi Tomato, Nasi Lemak Kukus, Ayam Goreng Berempah, Roti John. The food variety here expands beyond traditional Malay food to the likes as Takoyaki, pastas and pizzas, Putu Piring, Caremel Custard, Yong Tau Fu, and Dim Sum.

The best time to visit the Bazaar would be 4.00pm before the crowd pours in. By 5.00pm, do expect a horrible jam leading into and out of the car park. Parking spaces would be scarce by then as well. Here are some of the most popular stalls in the bazaar to tantalize your taste-buds! (The stalls below are listed in no particular order.)

1. Ayam Golek

There are quite a few stalls at Ramadhan Bazaar selling Ayam Golek but this nameless stall shall be our top pick. It is located in the corner of the second row of stalls. Not only does it outnumber its competitor in terms of the number of chickens and a tad higher pricing, there’s also a distinguish glow and slightly charred look to its chicken that stole our vote. Rows of whole chicken are being rotated slowly over fire and roasted to a perfect golden brown. A bite into its soft warm flesh proves the Ayam Golek to be well-marinated and juicy, with a slightly smoky and crispy skin that comes with good fire control. Pricing are RM19 and RM10 for whole and half chicken respectively.

2. Imani Percik Station's Ayam Percik

Also not to be missed are the rows of Ayam Percik being barbequed on bamboo skewers. Fresh off the grill, the chicken meat was tender and has a smoky accent, a perfectly barbequed masterpiece! The marinate was bold in taste with the typical Malay flavouring using fresh herbs and spices such as chilli, garlic, coconut milk, cinnamon, tamarind and lemongrass. The result of which is sweet, salty, and spicy all in one bite!

3. Dania & Damiel's BBQ Chicken Wings

These Sabahan chicken wings at Ramadhan Bazaar are quite the crowd puller with its irresistible smell turning heads in the crowd. Each wing was generously coated with honey and barbequed until the thin layer of skin had the perfect crisp. Other than wings, drumstick, chicken tenders and gizzard was also available.

4. Nasi Tomato Ayam Percik

This stall at Ramadhan Bazaar sells a different variation of the Ayam Percik. For those who enjoys a slightly charred barbeque chicken with a bit more of bite to it, this stall would be better suited for your taste buds. The Ayam Percik here seems to be a wetter rendition and was drenched in spicy red sauce. Carbs option are also available where customers may pair Ayam Percik with a box of fragrant tomato rice.

5. Inn Tepung Pelita

Inn Tepung Pelita has a three-row of queue surrounding it. The Tepung Pelita is a two-layered Malay traditional dessert that you could hardly go wrong with. The first layer is milky white in color and made out of santan. It’s rich with the coconut milk fragrance, tastes salty and has a milky texture. The bottom layer is an opaque green layer made out of pandan leaf juice. In contrast with the first layer, this one is light and refreshingly sweet. To kick it up a notch, each kuih is wrapped with pandan leaves for an added fragrance.

6. Moist Chocolate Cake

This nameless stall at Ramadhan Bazaar drew our attention as the three cakes it has on display vanish at amazing speed and is constantly replaced with new ones. Only 1 type of cake is being sold here – Moist Chocolate Cake. The cake texture was rich, dark and certainly harmful to the waistline. The seller cheekily adds on a thick layer of chocolate sauce for a glossy finish. The cake tasted as chocolatey as it looked, a good steal at RM5 per slice.

7. Cendawan Goreng 8 Rasa

What seemed to be so ordinary surprised us at how good it was as a snack. Each oyster mushroom was lightly coated in batter and deep fried into a crispy perfection. The batter was also well flavoured – salty and peppery. There are 8 flavours to choose from – original, black pepper, chicken, cheese, BBQ, spicy, tomato and curry.

8. Amza Kebab Cucuk

Kebab skewers are also widely popular at Ramadhan Bazaar. There’s a choice of beef or chicken skewers and all of them comes sandwiched between colorful layers of bell peppers. Both meat and vegetable were grilled to juicy perfection. The marinate is some kind of peppery brown sauce, quite simple yet perfectly compliments the natural flavour of the meat.

9. Murtabak

This stall at Ramadhan Bazaar is just simply named after its product – Murtabak. Not strictly Malay, Murtabak seemed to be overwhelmingly in demand during the Ramadhan season. Minced meat – with a choice of beef, chicken, or both – and onions are tenderly wrapped around a thin layer of eggy roti canai and grilled until golden and fragrant.

10. Jus Buah-Buahan Segar Stadium

Cool down from the overwhelming heat in this Ramadhan Bazaar with an oversized packet of fresh juice. The juices are being blended on the spot. Choices include watermelon, mango, pineapple, rockmelon and dragon fruit. Be warned though that the juices comes artificially sweetened, so it may be too sweet to be drank on the spot.
