Uncle Chong’s Kitchen
We had a terrific time trying delicious food at Uncle Chong’s Kitchen (One Shamelin shopping mall) on 29th May!
10 OpenRice members were invited to the food tasting session to sample 10 delicious dishes, including 5 noodle dishes and 5 rice dishes.
When the members arrived, they were attracted to the old photos of KL’s Golden Triangle hanging on the wall.
Before the food tasting started, we played a fun game by selecting three members to try a mystery food with their eyes covered with eye shades. After trying the food, they were asked to write down their reviews on white boards and share their reviews in public with other participants. The best reviewer who received the highest votes from the audience won a restaurant voucher as reward!
After the ice-breaking game, the long-awaited dishes were finally served. All dishes were freshly prepared by Uncle Chong himself in the kitchen. He is a seasoned chef with more than 30 years of experience in preparing local dishes!
Before trying the food, the dishes were put on a separate table for members to take some nice food photos.
Some mouth-watering dishes of the day include Curry Laksa, Asam Laksa, Tom Yam Seafood Noodle, Nasi Lemak and Grill String Ray.
Sinji, who joined MakanVenture for the first time, was impressed by Uncle Chong’s Yang Zhou Fried Rice, because the rice has coconut flavour.

At the end of the event, we had a Q&A session to give away free OpenRice souvenirs to members who were able to answer simple questions about OpenRice correctly. Before we parted our ways, a group picture was taken with the restaurant’s owners in front of the shop.
