The Tranquerah

OpenRice brought 10 lucky members to The Tranquerah located at The Strand, Kota Damansara to try authentic Malacca Style Nyonya cuisine on 14 May!

The Tranquerah

The restaurant’s owner, Stephanie, was kind enough to reserve a long table that can fit in all participants!

When the members arrived, they just couldn’t stop snapping photos of the restaurant’s interior, which was nicely decorated in traditional style reminiscent of a Malacca Peranakan house in the 40s.

After all participants had arrived, we began our food tasting event with our signature ice-breaking game, which required three members to try a mystery food provided by the restaurant with their eyes covered!

The Tranquerah

This time they were lucky, because what they had tried was one of Tranquerah’s signature dishes, Otak-Otak!

They were asked to write down their food reviews on white boards and shared what they felt about the food with all members. The member who got the highest number of votes won a restaurant voucher!

Before the dishes were served, the chef showed our members the proper way of making a delicious and authentic Pai Tee. The restaurant had also prepared all the ingredients for our members to try making a Pai Tee with their own hands!

After the simple DIY workshop, 6 new and best-selling Nyonya dishes were served. We had a great time trying something unusual yet delicious! The star attraction was the Keluak Bendi, which is steamed ladies fingers topped with special keluak sauce made of buah keluak imported from Indonesia.

The Tranquerah

Stephanie explained how buah keluak is processed to make it edible, and The Tranquerah is by far the only restaurant in Klang Valley that offers dishes with keluak sauce.

A group picture was taken before we called it a day after having a satisfying meal!
