Together Vegetarian Restaurant

The next stop on our tongue-teasing travels was at Together Vegetarian Restaurant in Bandar Puteri, Puchong. As usual, 10 of our lucky OpenRicers were in for a healthy 7-course treat including the best the restaurant had to offer. And all this for free!

The evening began with an ice-breaking session to allow newer members to mingle and get up to speed with some of our more seasoned MakanVenturers. Members were blindfolded and fed a mystery dish, following which they were asked to practice their review-writing skills on a whiteboard and share this with the crowd.

Helen, who is part of the husband-and-wife team that owns the restaurant, also joined in the fun.

As our friendly OpenRice staff began mingling with the crowd, banter was soon passing around the table as people began discussing what delicacies awaited them behind the kitchen doors. Wei Siong, who is an existing OpenRice member, told us that he found the website helpful for those days when he has a hard time deciding what to eat. New OpenRice member, Michelle, said she enjoyed getting together and sharing her dining experiences with people.

The eager crowd did not have to wait for long for their food to arrive. The sights and smells of the dishes being served silenced the crowd momentarily before cameras were whipped out. Helen, with her laptop in hand, explained the essence of each dish – all of which were also on their catering menu.

OpenRicers were treated to a vegetarian spread of Shark’s Fin Soup with Crab, the restaurant's best-selling Fried Bean Curd with Mushroom and Mutton Curry, in addition to a myriad of other tasty morsels.

As the last of the sumptuous dishes were served and people’s bellies began to get full, our gracious hosts began preparations for the food demonstration session. They went on to explain the finer points of how one could use vegetarian substitutes to make mock fried sotong.

The night ended with a question and answer (Q & A) session which gave our members the opportunity to win exclusive OpenRice merchandise. Helen presented members with their prize and also posed for the cameras with them.

A tired but satisfied crowd posed for a final group photo before parting ways. This signaled the end of yet another MakanVenture. Stay tuned for our next free food-tasting event here.
