South Pacific Café & Boutique

At our latest MakanVenture, it’s about spending quality time and sharing honest-to-good food with loved ones. Ten OpenRice members gather at the family-friendly South Pacific Café & Boutique for a fun, relaxing Sunday afternoon.

Some have brought along their kids, too.

The early birds are checking out the in-store fashion boutique. It’s a spacious walk-in wardrobe of chic collections from Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Thailand, and as far as South Korea.

“Ladies and gentlemen, let’s kick-start the afternoon with a little introduction about yourself,” our emcee Ms. Yen Ling announces.

Never hurts to have Garlic Bread on the side for snacking...

As well as a cup of house-made Fizzy Lemonade — refreshing!

The kids then participate in charades, whereby words and phrases are given and can only be guessed, sometimes syllable by syllable, through facial expressions and bodily gestures. Boy, what a blast!

Next comes the first of our homemade delights.

Everyone’s favorite Cream of Mushrooms Soup, prepared from scratch.

Chicken & Mayo Sandwich.

For the grown-ups.

For the kids, except theirs come with fries.

Let’s dive in!

Meanwhile, owner Ms. May, a bubbly and sweet lady herself, shares with the participants the story of her unique café & boutique.

While the afternoon proceeds, more homemade goodness from Ms. May’s kitchen, of course!

Chicken Salad, creamy mayo-dressed paprika chicken atop a bed of garden-fresh greens.

“Snap a shot of it before everyone else dives in!”

Ginger Fried Rice.

Pineapple Fried Rice.

“Yummy!”

The grown-ups are enjoying every spoonful of the food, too.

Chicken & Mushroom Spaghetti, pasta tossed with chicken and mushrooms in a creamy paprika sauce.

Seafood Delight, every mouthful is burst with a fresh taste of ocean.

Northern Thai Curry with Turmeric Rice & Veggie Stir-fry.

Thai Green Curry with Turmeric Rice & Veggie Stir-fry.

A bento prepared especially for our young gourmets — Cock-a-Doodle with Orange Rice.

Amid the flurry of activities at the tables, kids are always welcome to play and explore their creativity in KidZone, the adjacent play area with toys galore.

Every great meal ends with dessert, and here it’s no exception. Ms. May makes everything all the better with her homemade sweet treats!

Tong Yuen in Gingery Syrup, each of these chewy morsels brims with molten gula Melaka, brown sugar, and diced candied winter melon.

Crispy Mini Waffle with Real Maple Syrup, Whipped Cream, and Fresh Fruits.

And thick, filling Vanilla Milkshake. What a treat!

Before the get-together concludes, here are surprises for the winners of the charades — exclusive OpenRice Bowl and Cutlery.

Happy winners!

Last but not least, a token of appreciation — OpenRice apron — for Ms. May for everything she and her team have put together for the afternoon.

It’s been awesome, and we look forward to seeing you at the next MakanVentures!
