Komugi Beef Burger Smile Aug 27, 2013

The menu looks like a big newsletter, quite charming in it's own way.

Komugi's style beef burger! Looks really good so I ended up ordering it.

I missed out on their set lunch, which is quite a good deal. Should have gone there 1/2 an hour earlier!

The coffee making area is separated from the kitchen

The bad-ass looking Komugi Beef Burger with meaty fries

Layers and layers of ingredients, cheese, a big fat beef burger pattie, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, sweet onions, sesame buns and last but not least, seaweed flakes! Just look at how thick and juicy the beef pattie looked, yum yum!

I was overwhelmed when the burger was served because it was seriously huge! I would highly recommend this to be shared! The burger pattie is so thick, it's quite impossible to take a whole bite from top to bottom. They were kind enough to provide fork and knife though. I love the whole combination of ingredients in this burger. I think Komugi manage to make this burger very ownable and delicious as well. However, my qualms remained on the buns which were kind of dry. It's very surprising coming from a pastry company to make such dry buns! Ok, to be fair, I would rate it at 7, with 10 being driest. To me, the hero is the seaweed flakes. It gives the burger a very Japanese touch to it. In the end, I couldn't finish the burger and had to waste a small portion of it...

Another thing that I would like to mention is the cleanliness of the place. My sofa seating was constantly swarmed by these 3 irritation flies which tried to attack my food as well. The waiters noticed them but they seemed helpless about it. They could only fan them away, in which the pests came back later. I had to constantly fan them away and disrupt my lunch.

Komugi is located openly in the center of the hallway. There were many people passing by. And I think they would notice the flies as well. I wish they could do something about the cleanliness as I definitely would love to come back for their less pricy set lunch deals!

Spending per head: Approximately RM19

Sizzling Tofu OK Sep 30, 2013   (Related Review)

One of the dishes which the waitress recommended was the sizzling tofu. It was among the first to arrive after the lala soup, which I am not surprised as it is not too complicated to make.

Contrary to what it's name suggests, this dish did not come sizzling. Regardless, I quite enjoyed this dish. The tofu was well cooked, as it was smooth yet firm. The sauce was thick and flavourful and it comes with the egg scrambled among the gravy. The gravy also has a generous amount of mixed vegetables, mainly the peas, diced carrots and corn kernels.

This dish costs RM16 for a large serving for 6 people.

Sausage Cheese Bun Smile Sep 30, 2013   (Related Review)

My mouth was salivating when I saw this amazing looking bun. I bought it along with a few others for my dinner and the next day's breakfast.

The cheese was coated on top of the sausages and the base was the bun itself. The cheese managed to cover most of the sausage and it gave a savoury taste to the bun. The bun base was slightly sweet thus balance out the savoury taste. It's still one of the best selection that I've chosen that day.

Paku Belacan OK Sep 30, 2013   (Related Review)

Apart from the seafood and the meat, of course we have to order a vegetable based dish so that the meal is a complete nutritional one.

I ordered the Paku Belacan, as I have not tried it for quite some time and if made correctly, it can be very delicious.
The paku belacan here generally is quite tasty. I liked that the vegetables had a decent amount of belacan gravy with it, and also it has some sliced onions in it.

The belacan was very spicy, and many of us ended up sweating after finishing this dish. Spicy as it is, it blends very well with the vegetables and serves very good with white rice.

Fried Calamari OK Sep 30, 2013   (Related Review)

New Yew Sang is a typical coffeeshop which serves various hawker food during the day, but when the sun goes down, it turns into a Thai restaurant. We came by here for dinner one day as we always passes by this restaurant.

One of my many favourite seafood dish is the fried calamari, and therefore I ordered it.

I liked that the fried calamari were very crispy, in fact it was very hot when it was first served we had to wait for a while more to it to cool down. The calamari were chewy and delicious, especially when dipped into their Thai chilli sauce which was both sour, spicy and sweet as well. All in all a good dish to have.
