Red Box Dinner Buffet OK Sep 11, 2013

Red Box anniversary promotion has already begun, from 19th August until 31st October 2013 to be exact. Themed "Together We Celebrate", expect loads of prizes, delicious food, and promotions throughout this period.

The Honey Chilli Garlic Beef was supposed to be a specialty from Korea. I did not taste much of the honey though, and it tasted more like our local sweet soy sauce beef with a tinge of spiciness. The beef had a rather tough texture. Not really recommended.

For salmon lovers, the Grilled Salmon Honey Garlic Sauce would be good for you. Grilled just nice, without being burnt, the taste was good. It retained the sweetness of the salmon.

Call me old fashioned, but I was inclined to really enjoy the Teow Chew Duck served. It had a really fragrant smell to it, with the duck meat being tender and tasty.

The other day I was at Publika early in the morning for the Lingham's Chilli Sauce Convoy Campaign Launch and felt a tinge of hunger. Never a big fan of the franchised coffee establishments, I don't usually step in unless absolutely necessary. This time however, the nearest breakfast spot from the venue was San Francisco Coffee, so there I dined for the very first time.

I saw San Francisco Coffee had a breakfast menu of 5 to 6 different set varieties ranging from half boiled eggs, to toasts, meat and scrambled eggs. The prices weren't exactly what I hoped for, but I guess that is to be expected from a franchise such as this. I chose the American Breakfast set, check it out below

It was nice to be able to order, then proceed to sit at my chosen table, waiting for the meal which arrived within 5 minutes. My American Breakfast set looked enticing enough, even before I took a bite. The set consisted of scrambled eggs, 2 generous pieces of chicken ham slices, 2 sausages, 3 toasted bread with the accompanying jam and butter. It was indeed tasty, with a hint of buttery fragrant to the whole dish.

The scrambled eggs were freshly done, and went well with the toasted bread. I would think this set will fit perfectly for a heavy breakfast diner, as after finishing off the last sausage, I was full to the brim. No complaints there on the taste.

The complimentary piping hot tea which came with the American Breakfast set completed my meal for that morning. Before you go, why dine at a coffee place and not order their coffee? Well, personally, given a choice of tea of coffee for breakfast I would usually go for tea. In fact if there was hot chocolate, I would have chosen that.

Driving all the way out to Taman Bukit Maluri in Kepong this afternoon, my colleagues and I decided to drop by Tuck Kee Restaurant. I was told they were famous for their dim sums. Unfortunately this round, we reached at 1pm which warranted lunch instead of their famed breakfast dim sums.

As there were only three of us that afternoon, we went for minimal dishes, four to be exact. I did not manage to snap a photo of the vegetables but here's all three dishes presented out in this post. The first that arrived was more of an appetizer which whetted our appetite for the mains. The Pork Slice in Folded Bread dish contained six folds of bread which contained very delicious barbequed meat with slices of cucumbers. Taken with the accompanying chilli sauce, I wouldn't mind just having this alone for lunch.

Now I'm not a huge fan of fish heads, even though I know of friends who love it to bits. Preferring fish meat instead of the head due to the lack of meat inside, the Spicy Fish Head Cooked with Ginger was surprisingly very tasty and nice. Fried to a crisp and then stir fried with lots of ginger, green and red chilli, we had a mixture of salty, spicy and gingerish taste. I liked this dish for the taste, even though it lacked meat, but that's to be expected when you order fish head I guess.

The subsequent dish, the Dried Curry Prawn and Cuttlefish went well with my taste buds as well. Curry spices were used to flavour the dish, served on a plate of cuttlefish and peeled prawns. The prawns were fresh enough that I did not taste any "fishiness" in it. It was an overload of cuttlefish for me though, as there were just so many of it inside.

I had the opportunity to dine at Tonka Bean Cafe in Impiana Hotel KLCC last night, and it was a pleasant affair. I must say, for a preview buffet dinner, they did not hold back on the variety of dishes offered. We were spoilt for choice last night.

Never one to turn down an offer to have some mouthwatering satays, it was the first dish I "attacked" that evening. Juicy enough, it did whet my appetite for more dishes. The satay was perfectly prepared, without being overburnt, and meat was not too tough. Taken with the peanut sauce, I went for a couple of rounds of satays.

Another staple dish for almost every Ramadhan buffet would be the prized grilled lamb, shown in whole, and carved by the chef for our consumption. It does go well with the sauces and condiments, without having the heavy lamb aftertaste. It was good though, as I went for seconds at the "lamb" table.

From the collage of photos above, you would have thought it was more than enough to fill our stomach. With all that good food, it was a wonder how my stomach could take in more of the cakes and desserts after that.

Not being a fan of raw or seafood which were close to being raw and on ice, I skipped the fresh mussels on ice, prawns and crabs. I am more of a "fried and grilled food" type of person. It does look colourful and good though. My friend who tasted these, told me they were fresh enough, and any fresh seafood is good seafood.

Ample desserts were available for those with a craving of sweet stuff, including 18 flavours of Baskin Robbins ice creams, gula sago melaka, cream caramel, and even a sweet chocolate fountain with condiments. Feasting on the desserts alone may just be enough to fill my whole stomach for the night, so approach with caution, and do not overeat.

So there I was at this new-to-me Agehan Japanese Restaurant in Grand BlueWave Hotel Shah Alam (GBWHSA) last night for a short introduction to their bento set as well as an announcement of their recent Halal certification. Located in Shah Alam, it was my first time dining there.

For sushi and sashimi lovers, I do recommend their Sashimi boat as it was filled to the brim with fresh raw sashimis. Again, I did not really know how to enjoy all these raw ingredients, but it was nice to note lots of my friends love it to bits, as they did mention the ingredients were fresh and tasted sweet.

It was a rather simple bento set, one which came with miso soup, and other "noms" as pictured below. Served with rice, it was a meal on its own.

I liked the teriyaki chicken, which went well when taken with the rice. The chicken doused in teriyaki had that sweet taste which I love. Coupled with the tender grilled chicken, this has got to the yummiest ingredient in the bento set.

As for the grilled saba, personally I'm not a fish person, but Janice did like it. Agehan's assorted vegetables tempura were done nicely, deep fried without being too oily, taken with the accompanying tempura sauce.
