Mansion Tea Stall  Smile Oct 26, 2015
Categories : Indian | Restaurant

Deep in the city, there’s a special mamak stall that sells the best roti special – the Mansion Tea Stall. The shop is always hidden until it makes the identity if the shop as a mystery. Most of the customers consist of people who lives in KL that knows the secret stall. The stall was regular and the menus were the same as the other mamak stall along the same road. But what makes it so special?

During my college days, my buddies and I would always craved for a midnight ‘lepak’ place. The problem is our regular mamak stall was always full of other students. That’s when we discovered this special stall.

Regular customer would always call it ‘Mamak Telur Goyang’. Don’t be mistaken. People call it that because the most famous menu of the stall is its Roti Special where the roti canai is cut in small squares and is dipped deep in curry gravy, or what the Malaysians called ‘roti banjir,’ then served along with two half boiled egg dancing in your plate just waiting to be eaten. The price was reasonable, which is RM3.50 per plate. The range of water was normal like other mamak stall but I’d suggest their ‘teh tarik’, because it was full of foam and creamy taste.

There were also other menu on the list but people would mostly ordered the Roti Special. You can opt to eat it with some ‘sambal’ which are full of fried anchovies (ikan bilis) which would totally give your meal some texture.

The environment of this shop was also chilling and relaxing. Most people would come here to chill and enjoy a different view of our beloved City of Kuala Lumpur. Teens and even officers who had just finished their work would come to the stall and eat. The stall was so small but yet the dining tables were arranged alongside the side walk, which actually would give you the old-school buzz of ‘lepaking’ at a mamak stall. What a memory.

Though I can’t say that this stall hadn’t had any downside. First of all, the stall was located at a very packed place so if you are thinking of coming by car, you would probably had to circle the block for a few times before you get any parking. The arrangement of the dining tables were too packed and closed with each other, making the customer felt a little uncomfortable, especially if you are a woman. Plus, because it is near with the city center, they can’t avoid the appearance of beggars. And the beggars there were quite extream to the point of touching and forcing. So people, watch out a little for your precious belonging. I’d say I wouldn’t recommend women to come here alone. I could get pretty scary along the dark alley. As for the hygiene issue, I’d say that a person with OCD should probably don’t come here. Because the shop was located near the river, there will me some mouse and other ‘unfriendly’ animals and at times there could be smells coming from the polluted river.

Mali's Corner Smile Oct 25, 2015

Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Noodles | Nasi Lemak

It was no doubt that when it comes to a discussion of the best Char Kuey Teow, there would be a long list of delicious restaurant. But there is one particular place that almost everybody who lives in the Klang Valley knows. That was no other than the Mali’s Corner. Located at the most strategic place at Danau Kota, which was only across the famous Uptown Danau Kota. Mali's Corner is famous restaurant with its delightful Malay style Char Kuey Teow. Seldom there would be people from all other places visiting this restaurant to taste the all famous Char Kuey Teow.

Today, the Danau Kota branch even divides their restaurant into two shops to cook only two food on the menu separately, the Char Kuey Teow and Nasi Lemak.
Its Char Kuey Teow is really tasty and full of creamy sauces, sautéed and blended together with prawn, fresh and meaty. On top of each plate of specially cooked Char Kuey Teow is the most playful green chilli for those who loves a hint of spicy taste in their mouth. It is now available in three sizes, which are small, medium and large. The price range from RM4 – RM7. So you could order the meal according to your level of hungriness. To be honest, the small size plate is really small so you better order large size if you are a food lover. I’d say the small size platter was only suitable for first timer that wants a test of the char kuey teow. In addition, its nasi lemak also tastes nice with its own sambal sauce but it’s quite pricy! You can add a fried egg with RM1 extra charges and fried chicken for another RM3.50.

Unlike other restaurant, it does not have waiter services, so what you need to do is just queue up to order your foods and drinks. Then, pay at the counter and get your meals when they are ready. When I was there, I found that the surrounding environment is comfortable and oh, not to forget the best busker show at night. Well, the foods used to be very cheap, but they have raised much for the prices today and I think there are cheaper nasi lemak and fried kuey teow outside. However with its unique recipe, plus long opening hours, there are still many people who wants to eat at this restaurant. All you need to do is just go and enjoy the food there!

I was a forever western food lover. So I am always trying to find new and delicious western shop to eat at. When I was dining in at Murni Discovery restaurant, I notice there’s a wide field with lots of tables arranged and music played and many people were coming.

One night I decided to check it out. The place I mentioned is none other than the Western Express Restaurant. The open field is actually like a food court of other two shops but this shop received the most attention. For those who didn’t know the location, the restaurant was called Western Express Bandar Sri Permaisuri. You can opt to search through Waze or if you want the old school way, find HUKM and turn right after the next traffic light. It was opened everyday so it is impossible for you to miss it.

When you reached the open field area, the parking area was around it so with all the small stalls opened, the parking might be quite tough to find. The parking space had to be shared with lots of other restaurant. As you sit at the table, the waiters will come to give you the menu and take your order. The menus have almost more than 70 choices. You’ll be all grumbling before you could even decide what you want to order. For my first time here, it almost took about 15 minutes for me to decide what I want. The menus comes in 3 piece of big cards. There are so many choices, even for drinks.

I asked the waiter what’s the most famous dish ordered around here and he pointed to the Massive Series. The massive series serves a portion from 2 to 3 person per dish. There’s chicken grill, hotdog (sausage), beef steak, the famous chili cheese fries, coleslaw and plain toast. He also shows me their signature dish of Horseshoe Beefburger. And one note in my mind: the price is all so very very reasonable.

At last I order their double chicken chop and the unique and interesting Murtabomb. It took around 7 – 10 minutes for the food to be served. The chicken chop was marvelous and the fried deliciously. There’s no excessive oil and the chicken was a plenty. The coleslaw was quite disappointing though. The vegetables were rough and the mayonnaise was too dry. The fries was okay. My murtabomb was more than satisfaction. The stringy mozzarella cheese, the texture of the egg and the loads of beef inside the dish.

Overall the food was good and the environment was chilling. A perfect place to hang out with your friends. There were even small food stalls of Otak – Otak and Sotong Bakar and even a shisha booth. The hygiene was satisfactory but there are times when beggars like to come there. Please keep your belongings in secure. The service given was friendly and it makes you feel comfortable to come dine in here again, especially the uncle that cooks my murtabomb.

Big Bowl Ice Malacca Smile Oct 22, 2015

Categories : Chinese | Café | Sweets/Snack

I’ve been craving to go to this shaved-ice place that my sister had been rambling about. And so when I visited my sister’s place in Malacca, I managed to steal sometime to eat at this place. The shop was called Big Bowl Ice and it has a big signboard in front of this shop. You cannot miss this shop. It was night time and the wind there is so hot. I was sweating even when I’m in the car.

The shop was small and located at a junction in Batu Berendam. There were two franchise of this shop. One located at Bukit Cina, another at Batu Berendam. My sister told me that she preferred to come to this franchise because the parking space was big and a lot in numbers.

Big Bowl Ice is a shaved-ice concept store that not only sells shaved ice but also with many varieties of toppings and flavor and even sizes. We came here also to celebrate my little brother’s birthday and my sister’s wedding anniversary. I was glad that when we came inside the shop, the space were just nice with room to move for us to celebrate our occasion.

What’s the most unique of this shop is, there are an option of a 15kg shaved ice, which is the biggest and is suggested to be consumed for 10 person. So if you and your friends were ice cream and dessert lover, this was just the right place with the right environment. There were also a few tables on the outside for smokers so there would be no one smoking inside the air-conditioned shop.

Though the shop’s owner and workers were all Chinese, the shop were labelled and officiated as a Halal restaurant from Jakim its self. For us Muslims, there’s no reason for us to get concern about this shop.

The shop serves 2 types of ice. Shaved-ice, which is the main dish and also Snow Ice. Shaved Ice were the desert with fruit topping to give you a healthy choice in eating sweet things. Meanwhile, Snow Ice comes in 4 varieties. Chocolate, Matcha, Milk or Caramel. So which flavor would satisfy your craving? This shop just not only served normal ice like any other ABC or Cendol place. The snow ice was softer because it is grinded thoroughly before being served to the customer.

Our choice of desert that night was Chocolate Snow Ice with topping of vanilla ice – cream and crushed peanuts, Milk Snow Ice with mango and topped with Vanilla ice – cream and lastly, for the birthday boy, Caramel Snow Ice with the topping choice of mixed cereal, crushed peanuts and vanilla and chocolate flavored ice – cream.

The ice melted quickly because it was milk based but be careful when eating because I got a pretty bad case of brain freeze that night. It was a happy night with an excellent environment to celebrate our little family occasion. I would totally come again to taste the Matcha flavor because none of my family members actually like Matcha but me. Anybody wants to come along?

Deen Burger Bakar Bentong Smile Oct 22, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Food court | Burgers / Sandwiches

A recent craze here at Bentong, Pahang when a new franchise restaurant open recently. It’s no other than Deen Burger Bakar. This unique kind of burgers have been catching the heart of burger lovers and now it’s sweeping the town. People loves burgers. But there are times when the burger stall serves one thing too common. But with this new and upcoming restaurant, the people couldn’t be happier.

This hipster restaurant is located at Medan Selera Kg. Baru, Bentong. The place used to be almost dead and closed but with the arrival of this shop, the place got its light back and more customers than ever before. The shop may looked fancy but the price was the most reasonable I’ve ever seen. With pretty decorations and even comfortable surroundings, this would be my new favorite hangout place in Bentong. The restaurants serves so many varieties of western food with a twist in the recipe. The burgers ranges from with addition of cheese, black pepper, eggs and salami to a unique burger called the Black Canyon that has colored burger bun. There were also choices of grilled meat, juicy Deen Meatball or special B.B.Q lamb.

When I first came here it almost makes me wants to buy every single thing from the menu because it was so tempting and delicious and scrumptious and tummy-grumbling looking. Not the type of food I could resist. The burger price range from RM 6.50 to RM 34.00 if you’re feeling like you have a monster as a stomach. There were also add-ons of fries, sausages or with an additional of RM1.00 you can change your buns into black colored bun. Talk of feeling adventurous. Each burger also has its own option of single, double or triple. So before you order, ask your tummy how much it wants to eat.

The system of the shop is also systematic and easy. When you come to the shop, all you have to do is queue at the cashier, order then pay up. No need to wait for the workers to come at you and take orders and have that possibilities where they mistook your order.

I ordered the simple cheese burger with an addition of sausage as a side dish with a total price of RM8.50.

My brothers decided to filled both their inner monster and ordered the tower burger which consist of 8-layer of burger with each storey were squirt with different types of sauce and mayonnaise for RM 34.00. Both were take-away because the shop were almost at closing time. Sadly I couldn’t even had a glance on the tower burger because as soon as I came back from my room, the burger were all gone and digested well into both of their stomach. It was scary.

When I was queuing at the restaurant, I noticed that the shop has a very unique glasses for drinks. It was filled with funny words and puns and even motivational quotes. Overall my visit were satisfying. I would definitely come again to buy that tower burger. The hygiene was at its best and the food was splendid and the workers were all friendly.
