Not the best coffee yet Cry Feb 15, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Noodles

The restaurant is the typical coffee shop at the end lot. I was there for a drink and I ordered tea with milk. The tea was served hot by the restaurant but it was too sweet as they put a lot of condense milk and sugar.

overall, the service is fast except for the tea. probably the restaurant wanted to serve the drinks fast and put a little too much sugar and condense milk.

Kuey Teow Yong Tau Fu Smile Dec 31, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Noodles

This shop is located in Tebrau, Johor Bahru. Parking might be a challenge as the place is crowded and roads are narrow, made worst by people double parking their cars.

The shop is painted in bright yellow and it is air-conditioned. Customers will have to choose the ingredients they want which ranges from meatballs, fishballs, bitter gourd, lady finger, bean curds and chillies. Once the ingredient is chosen, customers will have to choose their noodles such as kuey teow, mee or lou shu fun aka Rat's tail noodle.

The ingredients are fresh and thus the soup is tasty. It is not too salty and it is just right. The soup came in a hot bowl. The restaurant service is good and fast. Overall the place is also hygienic. As for the environment, it is the typical kopitiam (coffee shop) style with very minimal interior decoration.

One thing I would like to forewarn, the area is a little dodgy and there are gangsters hanging around that area. My friend and I was approached by 2 gangsters trying to extort us some money. Thankfully they left empty-handed after we reasoned out with them. If you happen to drop by this area or this shop, try to go in a bigger group and be aware of your surroundings for security purposes.

Not so great after all OK Dec 26, 2012

Categories : Malaysian variety | Café | Noodles | Nasi Lemak

Meals Station is located on the ground floor of Wisma UOA II, Jalan Pinang, Kuala Lumpur, that houses many office suites. Naturally it is packed during lunch time as it is very convenient for people to have a quick lunch. It is a well-layout restaurant that has plenty of seats.

The price of the food is a tad more expensive than hawker food. For lunch, I ordered a simple Chicken Shredded Porridge. The portion is not very huge and it taste quite plain. The chicken meat is shredded into fine shreds and served with the porridge. The chicken shreds are not much and the ingredients are not generous. The porridge is served hot, though.
Not very good.

Not very good.

I ordered a cup of soya bean to compliment my meal. The soya bean is fresh and it is served chilled with ice. The drink is neither too sweet nor tasteless. It is just right. Probably Meals Station can consider serving Soya Bean drink with brown sugar. It will be good for a change.
Worth the try.

Worth the try.

The overall service is pretty quick and patrons don't have to wait too long for their meal even though it is frequently packed with hungry people during lunch hour.

My recommendation is that if you're in a hurry and need a quick meal, Meals Station is serves the purpose well. If you want something nice to eat and enjoy every single bite, it may not suit you. After all, Meals Station caters mostly to busy office workers.

The best Yong Tau Fu in town Smile Nov 14, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Yong Tau Fu

Puchong Yong Tau Fu is located in Jalan Tembusu Batu 14 which is approximately 5 miles away from IOI Mall, Puchong. Puchong Yong Tau Fu serves one of the best yong tau fu and it is well-known among Puchong folks. Operating from 11:30am to 9:30pm, the busiest crowd will be during lunch and dinner where parking around the vicinity will be limited.

You can choose a variety of ingredients such as brinjals, bitter gourds and ladies fingers, red and green chillies, tau fu, bean curd sheets, and bean curd which will then be stuffed with fish balls. The ingredients are tempting and you might choose more than you can eat! After you’ve chosen what you want, you will have to put them into a basket and hand over to the staff. The staff will ask if you would like to add more fish balls and your table seating.
The bean curd sheets are deep fried with fish paste and it is crispy. As the place is crowded and they want to serve the food fast, the oil wasn’t drained properly and it is too oily for my liking. The taste is good and you can taste the freshness of the fish paste.

The remaining of the ingredients that I chose was put into a bowl of yong tau fu soup mixed with some vegetables. The fish paste is fresh where the taste of the fish is rich. Puchong Yong Tau Fu did not skimp on the fish paste by mixing too much flour.

Eating yong tau fu would not be complete if it is without white rice, at least here in Puchong Yong Tau Fu.
If you prefer to add some other dishes apart from your yong tau fu, you can choose chee cheong fun, curry mee and pan mee. You don’t have to worry that for the long wait even though it is crowded. Their staffs are well-trained!

Master Toast Smile Nov 09, 2012
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

Tucked in the suburban of Kuala Lumpur, lies an under rated dining joint, Master Toast which serves a wide variety of food that suits your taste buds. Toast Master is suited on the ground floor in Scott Garden, a 3-level retail plaza along Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur.

With light music playing in the background and a tastefully decorated interior, Master Toast provides the “feels at home” experience to diners. The waiters and waitresses are mostly foreigners but they are polite and tactful. One can find local, western and fusion food in Master Toast. Food is served in a short period of time without sacrificing on the quality.

The 3-layer tea is a unique Malaysianize way of making tea which has the brown sugar (gula Melaka) at base of the drink, followed by a layer of milk and top off with the last layer which is the tea. One can choose to have it served in chilled or hot. The drink needs to be given a good stir before being consumed to ensure an even blend of all the ingredients. The taste and aroma of the tea and brown sugar is strong and it is not too sweet, making it a perfect a blend.

As Malaysia is a hot and humid country, a cup of Barley is a healthy way to quench the thirst. Master Toast serves freshly boiled barley. Barley Water on its own doesn’t really taste of anything; Master Toast flavoured it with a soft hint of pandan. It is a nice combination and a refreshing drink.

The foot long sausage is served with bread, mash potato with mushroom sauce and salad. The potato used to make the mash potato is fresh. Though the mash potato was a tad too wet, the taste of the sauce is too strong and a bit overpowering. The sausage is tasty and succulent with a slight pinch of salt. As for the bread, it is slightly toasted with butter. Unfortunately the bread is not freshly toasted from the oven as it is a little cold. Nevertheless, the food is good and worth the try.

Spaghetti Chicken Bolognese is a common dish that is widely available at eateries. Master Toast’s version is served with nicely diced minced chicken, simmered in tomato-based sauce and served with parmesan cheese. The serving portion is generous and it taste good as it is neither too wet nor dry.

The French Fries is an ideal side combo to complete one’s meal. The fries are served hot with some salt added for a better taste. Even though the fries are deep fried, it is not too greasy as Master Toast took the effort to properly drain the oil which is one will not feel too guilty to indulge in deep fried food.

Master Toast is a recommended place for individuals, couples or family who wants to have simple and affordable food with a cosy environment with plenty of parking spaces at Scott Garden.
